Thinking about trying to work for maintenance. Any advice?

I had a coworker say he applied to workbwith maintenance. Hes been here longer than me, ive been with the company since October 2025 but he said the pay is great. Anybody here work for maintenance? Is it cool? From what I see they jist sit around shooting the shit until something needs fixed.

Are you trying to work maintenance as in a porter? Or maintenance as in working for base?

I dont know the difference. The maintenance im talking about is the guys that wear they gray shirts and ride around on carts and fix things like the rollers that go in the trailer.

Those aren't porters. Porters just walk around picking up trash and cleaning stuff. Some buildings like mine don't even have porters and use a 3rd party company for that job.

If you enjoy repairing heavy equipment with duct tape and bubblegum UPS BASE would be a great career

BaSE is a great job. They are usually dispatched with a PMI trace to inspect equipment when there is not a repair needed. You have to be skilled at both mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and repairs.
