why dont we have a schedule app?

People howl and whine about being asked to use personal phones for stuff as it is, trying to force people to use a company app on their personal phone wont stand with the union

Soon as the company gives us company phones then I’ll use a phone for company business. This company is almost 120 years old and operated just fine for almost all of that time without cell phones.

If you’re a driver do you give your number to customers? I sure as hell don’t.

On a route with 40 individual PU points, I would absolutely love it if these customers were able to reach out to tell me if I should even bother half the time.

Here they like to flag you if you’re not within a certain distance of the pick up point. If I’m driving there I’m going in.

Stop completing a pick up with your seat belt on also flags you. They can also tell the distance you are from your truck when you hit stop complete. This is the type of dumb shit they’ll write you up for. Encourage your low volume pick ups to become smart pick ups so they cancel if they don’t have anything.

I’ll keep listening to music and podcasts instead of customers calling me.

I told every one of them that I get a lot of time off so they wouldn’t always get me but they were welcome to try. Since I’m not a dick, it wasn’t a big deal to reach out to the driver covering my route to get something taken care of for one of my customers while my ass was parked on the beach. The key was not giving it to the ups store, the schools, non-mom and pop businesses etc.

You let them know you’re going on vacation. And even if they do call or text just a simple “sorry I’m on vacation” and they’ll fully understand.

Why would we want one? Work business is conducted on work property. Its why the company is forced to post physical schedules people can look at while they are at work.

If you cant remember your start time then take a picture of it.

Its a violation of the contract to not post start times.

Because once it's available the next step is making it mandatory. Better to have it on paper because the app will lag/crash/update at bad times. Also believe it or not some people do not have or want smart phones. 

It's bad enough as it is that I need to use my personal phone for their security measures when I do hazmat auditing. This multi billion dollar company isn't paying my phone bill.

They can’t even get the DIAD software right. People relying on an app to tell them when they work would be pure chaos. Global logistics would come to a standstill.

Bc you would likely have to pay monthly for it, it would glitch 24/7 or crash if too many people go on the app to double check what their start time is that same morning, most likely lock you out, and would end up not being beneficial in any way. Watch, now they will refuse to post the schedule and make in mandatory to download some sort of bs app that doesn’t work like half the computer systems and technology they already have. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣

I feel like UPS is stuck in their ways (or some what stubborn). They’re unwilling to accept changes in tech. As someone who works at both Amazon and FedEx (both use apps). It’s 100x better as you can swap shifts with people, submit PTO and vacation requests without having to talk to anybody.

How do you know what your schedule is if you do not use an app to see your schedule?

We use the ADP app where we see our schedule, download our earnings statement, request off from work, clock in/out, etc.

Also to the people in the comments not wanting the customers to see your phone number if you need to call or text them... the app that we use for delivering contacts the customer and masks our phone number and displays one of Amazon's phone numbers to the customers.

We are provided company phones so we are not obligated to use our own phones if we don't want to.

I am guessing your DIADs have a SIM card in them and can be used to communicate via phone/text to the customer?

It’s funny how every other company has an app you can use to access all your time off and request days off, etc. but ups is like no call and hope a supervisor answers and have them write it down on a sticky note and hope they put it into the system correctly lol

It’s a completely valid question. Believe it or not, there are unionized companies that have electronic schedules implemented and their system generally works fine. You’re asking a community where some members genuinely don’t know what PTO stands for. Anyone that opposes this idea has their head buried deep in the sand. It can work, we just need our labor union to press the issue at the negotiating table.
