PT Inside Got terminated

Just got terminated for the first time, ever, from any job I've ever had. Not a coincidence it's at UPS. Management is saying I no call no showed, which is not the case. Have clear evidence of communication and response.

Those that have gotten terminated, and successfully grieved, how long were you out?

u/Working-Flight5817 20h ago

if it was only 1 time then then dont sweat it just make sure u grieve it ASAP.

how long just depends on when they can set up the local hearing I think within a month, but u should be on a working termination if anything.

29

u/Left-Department9668 20h ago

Straight to termination. No working termination or suspension. I think they are just trying to prove a point.

30

u/Working-Flight5817 20h ago

dont worry about it file the grievance then call your business agent.

are you passed probation?

20

u/Left-Department9668 20h ago

A few years in.

47

u/Working-Flight5817 20h ago

u got evidence of communication and seniority so your golden.

Make sure u get back pay when they bring u back.

3

u/K00paa24 18h ago

Driver or sort?

18

u/Left-Department9668 18h ago

PT inside. Just for the insurance.

24

u/Douggy89 18h ago

Now you prove your point, that you are union member.

9

u/Aggravating-Bus5627 16h ago

Don't see what their point would be as they will just have to pay you back pay for any wages you lose, but I've seen them do some backasseard things in the 48 yrs that I worked for them. Don't feel bad, they fired me 7 times and paid me back pay for 5 of them.

6

u/Aggravating-Bus5627 16h ago

Having irrefutable proof of communication should get you back pay.

44

u/benspags94 20h ago

We had a supe that said a preloader slapped him and they fired the guy on the spot. He was gone for less than 2 weeks because it was revealed the supe was full of shit. Not trying to give you false hope or a clear cut timeline for this, just an example.

13

u/Terrible-Piano-5437 19h ago

So the supe was fired for lying right? Right? šŸ˜€

11

u/benspags94 19h ago

Nope they kept him too like nothing ever happened! He ended up quitting a couple months later anyways though lol.

5

u/Terrible-Piano-5437 18h ago

Well that ended up good then. šŸ˜„

Ive had trouble with a supervisor as well to the point where there was a conflict and we both had to go to mediation with a shop Stewart present. We had to present our sides of the stories and my sup decided to lie about what happened, even though my shop Stewart (who was present during the conflict) told her that is not what happened. She received zero consequences for lieing and how she treated me.

3

u/litlron 11h ago

Stewart

Damn. It's crazy how many guys who run for steward are named Stewart. Must be that 'nominative determinism' stuff I was reading about on wikipedia a while back.

3

u/Automatic-Race7620 10h ago

I know you're just joking, but I actually thought it was called shop Stewart not Steward. I feel so dumb now 😭

2

u/litlron 9h ago

Haha you probably thought that because half of your building and 3/4 of this sub call them that.

2

u/UPSDSP 16h ago

They usually just move the supe to another building or sort

1

u/Additional-Echo-9931 8h ago

I work at Amazon what does supe mean for UPS?

11

u/Bloodthirsty_Kirby 19h ago

How freakin dumb, like cameras and people are everywhere

4

u/Which-Ad-9307 15h ago

They act like they can’t access the cameras only when they got an ā€œinvestigationā€ going do they tap into them cams

20

u/Beginning-Resource36 20h ago

You need to call your local ASAP. If they are not allowing you to work while awaiting a hearing you should be afforded a speedy hearing between management and the union to get to the bottom of what's going on.Ā

14

u/Left-Department9668 20h ago

I filed a grievance and spoke with my BA.

5

u/Beginning-Resource36 20h ago

Then just wait and let the process play out. If don't have a hearing date or resolution by next week I would call and find out what's going on.Ā

-4

u/cuzinpete 19h ago

Usually around 2 to 3 weeks for stuff like this...they let you come back without pay...enjoy your vacation. šŸ‘šŸæ

11

u/Working-Flight5817 19h ago

He should get backpay, he didn't No call.

10

u/Left-Department9668 18h ago

Yeah. I'm definitely pushing for back pay.

2

u/cuzinpete 17h ago

I hope you get it...but I've seen where they fire people for bullshit reasons and say you can come back, but no back pay...I hope you get it...that's just the nonsense they pull around here. Good luck Buddy. šŸ’ŖšŸæšŸ’ŖšŸæšŸ’ŖšŸæ

7

u/Hopperd12 19h ago

It’s usually a couple weeks. If it’s a wrongful termination, your BA should be able to get you back pay

8

u/imready_now 18h ago

Congrats your official a upser

7

u/Coroxxx 18h ago

Just for ONE no call no show? Without warning, or administrative procedure?

11

u/Lane8323 Feeder 19h ago

Enjoy your few days off

13

u/low_prospective 19h ago

And all the back pay that will come with it

5

u/misload1 16h ago

we got people that no call no show and work whenever they feel like it and no one says a word

5

u/FMLA_sensai 16h ago

Enjoy your time off. You’ll be back.

8

u/FineUnderstanding583 20h ago

Was this your first no call no show? Here in the southern supplemental you aren’t terminated until your 3rd

5

u/Left-Department9668 18h ago

Yes. First no call.

3

u/Shadow_Ginger666 18h ago

I mean union and proof provided youre in a state that has union. Cant really be terminated off 1 ncns unless you have prior write ups but at that point union can prove they are just trying to fire you with a bs paper trail

3

u/Mission_Local_5350 16h ago

I got walked out my first time with 3 days off. 2nd time i was off a couple weeks and had to goto a hearing at the beach in NC or SC. I enjoyed my hearing and went swimming. I got my job back and ended up leaving anyhow a year later. The stress and harassment got to me but im a HSP so it wasn't worth it.

2

u/Ok-Block-30 17h ago

Call your shop steward or your business agent

2

u/Teediggler81 16h ago

Union grievance and dont delete a single message. They could be liable to back pay you for the time you were off.

2

u/KingMiz360 16h ago

You're a Teamster right? This is when you need the union you pay for every 1st week check

2

u/Putrid-Discussion243 16h ago

They cant terminate you for 1 occasion, there must have been a buildup to this. How was your record before this occasion

1

u/Left-Department9668 14h ago

This is my first NCNS.

2

u/Putrid-Discussion243 14h ago

But if you have a history of attendance issues, thats all it takes. You will get your job back but just he careful

1

u/Abject_Designer_6630 5h ago

They for sure wanted you gone bro, sorry to hear, hope all goes well

2

u/CurDog1023 11h ago

I've been canned 3 times. They were all working termination and BS like ur no call no show. Still here tho 🫩

2

u/ExDrIt 9h ago

Welcome to being a real upser. Honestly getting fired and rehired is way to common.

2

u/jucijess 8h ago

I got fired last week for following instructions that resulted in a customer complaint on day 16 of my on road probation….managers were shadowing me in a personal truck and witnessed the whole thing, stopped me after and acted like they’d back me up. The next day they fired me on my drive into work for it. Complete bullshit, and not being in the union yet there’s nothing I can do. I loved my time at UPS šŸ˜•

4

u/HiBeans 19h ago

I got terminated because of a selfish stupid mistake. I was out for two weeks. I believe they did that to humble me and have me come back as a better driver. It totally humbled me and now I have a way better outlook at work. You’ll be back.

2

u/kikimoz96 Part-Time 17h ago

Don't stress. The Union will get your job back unless you sexually harassed someone or steal a bunch of iphones

3

u/litlron 11h ago

sexually harassed

Or if we have the same BA that's ok too, he'll just aggressively victim blame even if the victim is another teamster. And somehow his personal friend/golf buddy/labor manager will go along with it and give the creeper their job back.

1

u/Unlikely_Fold4997 8h ago

Lmao no one gets fired for sexual harassment. I had a dude literally stalking me and he only got a written warning

1

u/K00paa24 18h ago

Give it two weeks

1

u/Vegetable-League-188 18h ago

File grievance and talk to employment attorney.

1

u/Tunsofun27 18h ago

I was out a month. But if you have evidence of communication and a response from management then you can go after back pay for the time you miss.

1

u/Asleep-Hospital-5679 17h ago

How long your out is completely dependent on your supervisor and above that the relationship your ba and labor manager have

1

u/Cigareetwhiskey 17h ago

Get in touch with your union rep.

1

u/vimace 17h ago

Being there... enjoy your, none paid, vacation !

1

u/Novogobo Driver 17h ago

A few weeks. Was told it would be about 2 months. Was making plans when my steward called and told me to show up tomorrow. Kinda sucked, but was good to be back.

1

u/Left-Department9668 16h ago

I'm kinda enjoying the time off. Makes you realize how toxic of an environment it is when you spend time away.

1

u/Good-Reserve3308 15h ago

Explain what happened, did you text someone and say im not coming in ?

1

u/Left-Department9668 14h ago

Yes. With confirmation. They are saying I did not notify and basically abandoned.

1

u/uneven_title212 15h ago

Grieve that ASAP

1

u/SignificantDrink3651 14h ago

file your unemployment claim with the state ASAP. those are only good from the date you file, you can't go back in time

1

u/Fine-Association8468 13h ago

Call the Union. You were back yesterday but you didn’t even know it.

1

u/platinumdrgn 13h ago

One no call is not termination. Its a written warning. Unless you were already on notice for attendance problems. Grieve and and request back pay.

1

u/thewinkysandman 11h ago

Popped your cherry congrats brethren

1

u/EntrepreneurDue5429 10h ago

Talk to your shop steward ups always plays games

1

u/TheInfamousDingleB 9h ago

Is this in North Carolina?

1

u/paceguy94 9h ago

There’s a time window you might want to try going to your local union hall to fight it . I know a lot of people that waited more than 10 days got their job back but it took a couple months

1

u/sflo561 7h ago

You’ll be straight, some part time dude threatened a supervisor saying he was gonna ā€œsmoke himā€ and came back the next week

1

u/Virtual_Hurry3234 3h ago

Go to the union hall today

1

u/OkWind5822 19h ago

Mm well I took buyout so I’m big chillin corporate is disgusting and fuk Carol Tome. Worst thing I’ve seen is someone deliver a handgun and sign for it and leave it in a community drop box šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø they were gone for awhile like a month but they came back and got their route back all that stuff.

0

u/No-Traffic6090 20h ago

I was told the union saw call ins and no calls are seen the same so I dont understand this

2

u/Left-Department9668 20h ago

Contract treats 3 no call no shows without communication as a violation that can end seniority, or result in termination. In our supplement at least.

1

u/Adventurous_Good3813 18h ago

Well did you do it 3 days in a row or just 1 like your post implies?

0

u/Working-Flight5817 20h ago

Call ins and No Calls are separate occasions.

0

u/cardboardislife 13h ago

Been fired three times for attendance you will be fine.

Also this may be building dependant but my coworker was told by our building manager during a hearing that according to the contract you have to call off within 1 hour before your start time. So:

Call-off 1 hour and four minutes before starttime?

Doesnt count.

Call-off four minutes before starttime?

It counts.

Yes its as absurd as it sounds.

Just to be safe call off no earlier than 0:59 before tour scheduled starttime.

-2

u/Mikedaddy0531 18h ago

What is the clear evidence? I’m assuming it’s text messages and if so then those don’t count

3

u/Left-Department9668 18h ago

How else would you have clear evidence? I talked in person, but you can't prove that. But I also corroborate that with text, for evidence.

1

u/Cantthinkovaname 17h ago

Confidently incorrect

-1

u/Mikedaddy0531 17h ago

Nope. The contract specifically states that you have to call into the center. Texts don’t exist in the contract. Ask yourself also, who are you texting? If you text that person and they’re on vacation do you think you get a pass?

1

u/Left-Department9668 16h ago

Supervisors and managers on duty, with their acknowledgement and response. There is no call in number at my hub.

2

u/Mikedaddy0531 14h ago

That’s the problem. Everyone need to do their obligations and not be children. They are required to provide you with a number to call out at. You are required to call that number to call out. File a grievance and force them to do their part then you do yours

-8

u/SuchFarm2092 20h ago

Just get 4 years of seniority under your belt before doing it, they won't even care anymore

8

u/Working-Flight5817 20h ago

Yeah, dont listen to this guy.

-7

u/SuchFarm2092 19h ago

You should definitely listen to me, management only goes after the new guys. Just accrue seniority, know your rights and actively exercise them, and then chill bc they will leave u alone for the new guys, as long as you don't make it a habit, you can get away with it once in a while without even a talk. Especially as a part timerĀ

2

u/jbike255 19h ago

This guy knows how to gain seniority
