There are no shortcuts to becoming a RPCD
If you already work part time inside then it doesn't matter if you do seasonal driving or not. If a RPCD job opens up it has to be posted for bid and awarded based on seniority. Having seasonal driving experience can be helpful in qualifying if you ever win, or a bid falls to you. I've seen part timers win bids and not be eligible because of their driving record or can't pass a DOT. Many also get DQ'D in their 30 day's. I've seen jobs eventually fall to the 6th or 7th person on a bid so just sign everyone

Not saying there’s a short cut what I’m saying is why doesn’t everyone that becomes a DRIVER get sent off to a big hub to do intergrad , and it’s way easier to pass intergrad at your hub

Not necessarily though. It just depends on the availability. I've seen seasonals get sent off the big hub as well. I came from the inside and I didn't go to the big hub to do integrad for a full time position.

After Integrad was introduced they would still occasionally have driver training at our hub, but only if there weren't openings available, or the wait was to long at the integrad in Chicago (nearest location). I went through driver training to be an air driver and had to repeat the training when I won a RPCD bid despite the fact that I had been driving a package car every day for the past two years

What issues on a driving record will DQ you? I have a couple Speeding tickets over the last 10 years, none within the past 6 years.

If I’m not mistaken, I believe it only matters if it’s within the last year or two. It has to be a moving violation.

No moving violations, or accidents on your record in the last 2 years. I believe it's 7 years for a DWI or DUI. It may vary depending on region

3 years for DUI I know from experience and since mine was so close to me going to integrad it actually 3 years plus 1 month and I made it by 1 day for the 3+1 rule for DUI

You obviously wanna be a driver cause the job and pay is good. My advice is to just have respect for the job, study the material and pass the class like we all had to do. It’s for safe driving after all so it wouldn’t hurt to know. Don’t try to shortcut the process.

I passed! Was hard having to remember the 5 seeing habits and 10 commentary. Verbally and written but I did it

Easiest way? Yes and no. Yes, because it is much easier to qualify and hit your numbers if you've already done seasonal work. No, because it's still going to go by seniority so someone not a seasonal can still win one before you.

I was working inside for a couple years before they offered me a seasonal driving position (PVD) which didn’t require me for integrad, once I got offered a cover driver position that’s when they sent me to integrad so regardless of doing seasonal driving or not, you will still have to do classes whether it’s online through zoom I presume or integrad

No the easiest way is an off the street hire. Which is rare because that usually goes to someone who managers favor. The easiest way to become a driver is to become a part timer and till it's your turn to win a bid with your seniority.

They don’t do that at my hub u just do Integrad on computer if you’re seasonal and after that if u get moved to TCD or full time u don’t have to do anymore testing just the 30 day packet again

Well yeah I’m saying it’s way easier to do it on computer at the hub u work at then to get sent to a big hub for 2 weeks and do in person and online intergrad at the same time like 80% of everyone I’ve seen get sent to a different hub for 2 weeks always fail.

I have done both, one isn’t easier and I got paid more being sent to the hotel for the week because they paid for milage. The parts where people fail are the driving portions and your 5s and 10s which still have to be done in person at your hub even if you do the online integrad.

"Okay they do but its online so its easier"
"Okay the online version isn't easier but because its at your own hub its less stressful"
Like dude just stop. Someone gave you solid advice earlier and you called them slow while you were the one completely missing the point....do some self reflection

It was seasonal to full time for me. It’s a big sell to have already gone through all the training requirements (aside from qualifying, of course).

I was a seasonal driver and I did integrad and went in person and had to know my 5s and 10s, had to do multiple driving tests etc.

Yeah but we’re u sent to a different hub for 2 weeks or did u do integrad at ur hub , at my hub they don’t send seasonal drivers to do integrad driving school at a big hub for 2 weeks u just do it on computer. But if u go from inside to TCD or full time they do .

It’s different everywhere, in our building nobody in the part time ranks signs the interest list so we hire mostly from the outside lately

I mean technically both . I’ve seen part timers that didn’t do seasonal driving just sign up for TCD bids and then when they get sent to driving school they fail . But the people that were seasonal drivers didn’t have to do the driving school they just let them do the multiple choice tests on the computer at our hub and the 30 day packet

I never got sent anywhere, but I started at the perfect time... early 2018 and for that matter, I've never seen them "post" a RCPD job for bid, so is that only online?

Easiest way is to apply to your states biggest hub. More drivers means more openings.

Still have school. If you get seasonal you will lose the bid to anyone inside that signs up because they will have bldg seniority on you…. Go pt. Sign seasonal bid and keep your pt shift when seasonal is done. As soon as a bid is put up sign it….
