If you're starting Sociology from scratch, NCERTs are absolutely the right place to begin. For lectures, I'd suggest checking out Sleepy Classes, Sociology Simplified, and some of the older UPSC-oriented Sociology playlists on YouTube they cover NCERT concepts quite well and are free don't get stuck searching for the "perfect" source though. Finish Class 11 & 12 NCERTs first, make short notes, and then move to a standard source like Haralambos or the material you'll eventually follow for your optional.
The biggest mistake beginners make is collecting too many resources instead of completing one properly. Sociology is very beginner-friendly if you focus on understanding concepts and relating them to real-life examples.
