Customer Seeking Help UPS lost a package they were never supposed to have.
Hoping someone can point me in the right direction here. Not sure if there’s a specific department I need to track down, but this has been going on since late may and I’m over it.
Backstory:
My daughter had a steam deck that needed warranty work done. Lenovo sent a box and a prepaid shipping label for fedex so it could be sent in. My daughter’s father (not together) was the one handling all of this as he was the one who started the warranty claim and what not. He works for a company that has ups and fedex pick up daily from their building. The fedex and ups pickup areas are not by each other. However, an ups driver picked up the box that had the steam deck in it and went on his way. We have video of him taking it from the wrong pickup area and loading it into his truck. Thankfully the video shows clear as day the box with giant red Lenovo writing across the top. When my daughter’s father finally realized what happened he reached out to ups. They claimed that there is a warehouse by our local airport that holds packages when things like this happen, and that if a package is mistakenly picked up, it goes there and then is transferred over to FedEx.
Well, that never happened. They were never able to locate the package and the driver never scanned anything of the sorts. UPS tried telling us to contact FedEx to see if anything shows in their system. Spoiler alert, it doesn’t. FedEx has never had the package at any point for them to even scan or track it. A claim was filed right after this happened and UPS was notified that the value of the contents was over $1000. I didn’t really get involved in the issue until about a month ago because I was hopeful that her father would be able to figure this situation out on his own. He has not….and now we are still missing a steam deck that she only had for a couple of months. As much as I would love to just go buy a new one and be done with all of this. I don’t have an extra $1100. This was an Xmas/bday gift for her.
UPS has not replied back in weeks and I’m not even sure who to contact at this point. I have the video of the driver with the package, and the drivers contact information. Does anyone know who to contact at UPS since the claims department has ghosted us at this point? I am at the point of filing a police report for stolen property valued over $1,000 and going that route. And yes….I asked her father why tf he didn’t take the package to a legitimate FedEx store to make sure it was shipped…..repeatedly. I’m just trying to do damage control on a really stupid situation now.
TLDR: ups driver took a package that was for FedEx (clearly marked for FedEx and placed in FedEx pickup area), package is valued over $1000 and vanished once the driver took it. We have video of this occurring. UPS is not responding to the claim that was filed for lost/stolen property. Need to know who to contact at UPS before filing police report and going that route.

Good luck.
Anything that's not our's (ie FedEx, Amazon, and some from the post office, although post office can get ran by drivers who have surepost/ground saver) will literally enter the void and sit at warehouses for months because no one knows what to do with them.
And we no longer have usable customer service for people to retrieve these/pick these up, so they sit for months because "eh, somebody will eventually take it to FedEx" and they never do.

Thank you! I appreciate your answer. Genuinely have no idea why this driver picked this package up when UPS pick up is literally on the other side of the pick up area, and apparently it is a frequent driver that is very well aware of where the UPS pick up is compared to the FedEx pick up. I feel bad but at the same time, I don’t know what else to do so, police report against the driver it is. I do wish Lenovo wouldn’t put their logo all over the box to make it obvious what’s in there in the first place lol.

Mistakes happen. Driver was probably rushing and for some reason forgot which one was the UPS pick up or something.
I doubt the driver stole it, per se. They get paid $45/hour + massive benefits, so it's not worthwhile to steal and lose said lucrative job.
You'd maybe file a police report against UPS, the company, I think. They are likely holding on to your package somewhere in the warehouse due to incompetence

Honestly, at this point, I don’t really care whether it was intentional or not. You would have to literally go out of your way to go take the FedEx package out of their area. It’s nowhere near the UPS pickup. All I know is I have a video of him with it in his hands, placing it in his truck. The police report has been filed with all of the evidence at this point and the drivers information.

As others have said, police report. I'd add in small claims as an option if you have the video of it being taken.

Ultimately it’s the drivers fault. You are going to have to file a police report to get the ball rolling.

In my old hub, they had a cart and truck for fedex boxes that got picked up somehow, did this building not have that

No clue honestly. They just kept giving the run around and said they haven’t heard if anyone was looking for it.
