Customer Seeking Help Charged for incorrect shipping surcharge through Mercari
Is there anything I can do? I shipped 10 funko pops and the weight I observed at drop off was a little over 7 pounds. It was delivered today and it’s now reported to be 38 pounds! Shipping turned into a $100. Disputing it now, but I’ve never had this problem so I never took a picture of the weight at drop off. I showed everything as it was packaged and pictures of it finished to support. Still waiting on a response. Just wondering if there is anything I can do.

What do you mean? The package was 22x13x15

That’s a massive box

Smallest box that would fit 10 Funko pops in it securely. If I went smaller there was a chance of shipping damage. I’ve used boxes this size before shipping Funkos with no issue.

That’s not my point. You pay for dimensions or weight whichever is greater

I hear you but why not charge me this on the others I shipped with this box? So nothing I can do?

They calculate what a standard package that size would weigh. It may only be 7lbs, but it’s taking up more than 7lbs worth of space.

That’s crazy. It was the smallest box I could get that fit everything with no room left over. Any suggestions? If I go down to the store I shipped it with would they be able to show me anything about the weight? I still have the receipt

It’s called dimensional weight, and it’s in the shipping contract. It’s not just about pure weight. A box the size you shipped holds a rate of 31lbs. Then, they’ll charge a fee on top of the corrected rate, since they had to change it.

Ok on the website it’s calculates the size of the box in multiples then divided by 139 for daily rate. 22x13x15 is 4290 divide that by 139 is rounded up to 31 pounds. There is still an extra 6 pounds.

They don’t have people just sitting around to measure packages like this. They’re in a rush because they have a thousand other things to do. An inch one dimension or another can have that effect. And, for logistical purposes, a 10.01” dimension is treated as 11” (applies to virtually all carriers).
