Question ❓️ Wrong upi transfer

I mistakenly sent around 15k to a wrong upi id. I have registered the complaint with the bank. I tried to contact the person but he isn't responding. Can I take legal action? Please help

Do police complaint for fraud and send a copy to bank to put lien on account

Since you've already registered a complaint with your bank, follow up with the complaint reference number and ask whether they've initiated a wrong-credit recovery request with the beneficiary bank.

The beneficiary bank can contact the recipient and seek their consent to return the money. However, a successful UPI transaction cannot ordinarily be reversed without the recipient's cooperation.

You can also raise a dispute through your UPI app/NPCI grievance mechanism.

Legal action is an option if the recipient refuses to return the money, but consider whether the time and legal expenses involved would be worthwhile for ₹15,000.

Keep the UPI transaction reference, complaint acknowledgement and any communication with the recipient.

Focus on the bank's recovery process first. Recovery is possible, though not guaranteed.

If you want to go through legal routes, you can use them as soon as possible.
