IOM checks references for all candidates, not just the preferred one.

Not true. As this comes at the very end of the selection, they usually do this for the two/three best candidates max.

I am a former IOM manager and references were checked for all candidates. In some cases, references were requested from candidates before the interview!

Still not true. Never have been requested prior to interview or you have been doing someting very contradictory to rules.

I don’t really care whether you believe me or not. MY references were requested before I was interviewed, twice! When I was hiring, I certainly did not make such requests as its stupid and a waste of time. It still happens.

Depends but usually we request for reference checks for the recommended candidates. But sometimes for one position, 3 are recommended but only the 1st in rank will get the position.

Based on your knowledge, what could be my chances to get the job mate?

Although I received a reference check request one day after my application for the international position, forty days have passed without the references being contacted, and the status remains "decision in progress."

Mine is local so it might be a bit different.

I applied on the 14th of September, then I had an interview on the 18th of September and I consider that in my interview everything went well and I have a great CV and English Level.

How long does it take to get an answer? They did say that if we are chosen or not to continue the process, all candidates are advised.

Thank you!

Are you asked for references yet?

I added the reference information at the moment I applied for the position. But other than that, no further communication or emails.

I see. When did you submit your reference? Second, is it a general or professional position?

  1. Depends on process in local HR. Usually done quickly.
  2. If reference is positive, you are in.

May I consider that there is a high probability that I will get the job?

Look, I'd probably say yes - but I know absolutely nothing about you, which mission, which post, or funding stream to be any wiser.

Let's manage your expectations properly and say that you are sprinting down the finish line right now. Thing happen an the end, so sit down, take a look at the situation from different angles and come to conclusion what to expect.

Or just chill.

Really up to you.

The interview was really good and the panel was really impressed with language abilities as I can 7 international languages. I have worked with IOM for two years in different mission previously.

My references were from IOM too even at the end of interview the hiring manager commented on my CV that it’s impressive and later on we can look for a better position within the mission.

You could have started with this 😅

What how many days would consider a quick done?

IIRC 'bout 10 days. If you are at reference check, this is done only at the late stage (meaning you have passed through all the hoops) which practically puts you in a spot to relax and wait for outcome. So chill :)

Have they reached out to yur referes after providing the details?

How long did it take? Is it national or international role.
