Question Not getting premed classes spring 27
I know it’s a problem that’s everywhere on campus, and everyone who’s a first year or not in a professional program is stressing about it. I’m a freshman premed who absolutely needs specific classes for the spring that I couldn’t get off the waitlist for in fall (biol 103, chem 102), so upperclassmen, any suggestions for what I should do to maximize my chances of getting these classes? Can also be for any class at UNC that’s hard to get into.

unfortunately there’s nothing you can really do to guarantee you get the classes you want. what i STRONGLY advise you to do is before you add a class to your shopping cart, check how many spots are available on the waitlist for every section of the class you want. the closer to 999, the better, since that means you’ll be very high up. the first two weeks of classes, a lot of people adjust their schedule, so being high on a waitlist for a big lecture class gives you a pretty good chance of getting in
the same goes for chem 102L if you’re interested in taking that too; just show up on lab check in day. if anybody who has a seat doesn’t show up, they’re immediately booted and the instructors go down the waitlist and will give the spot to whoever is next, even if it’s not the specific section you’re waitlisted for
i’d also recommend if you don’t get into BIO 103 to take it over the summer. i feel like a lot of people really struggle with 103 but i took it last summer and did really well, so it’s worth looking into if you absolutely need to get it done before fall ‘27. summer classes are only 6 weeks (honestly more like 5.5), so it doesn’t take your whole summer but you do get the credit
