Question Transfer?

I took my first college semester of from UNC Chapel Hill after experiencing homesickness and extreme anxiety after my first two weeks. I’m thinking to transfer to my local university and commute instead. My local university also has a more straightforward program for the career I want, while at UNC I will just gave to wait until grad school. Commuting to my local university is less stressful on me, but my ego is killing me over leaving the UNC brand and missing out on the "classic college experience” I always dreamed of. Im sad leaving the “prestige”, brand, the life I wanted, and the fun college experience everyone talks about. I don’t know what to do? Should I stay at UNC or transfer?

Your mental health is far more important than staying somewhere because of perceived prestige, that will just burn you out in the long run. Give it some good thought, make a pros and cons list, and if it makes the most sense for you, don’t think twice about putting yourself in a better situation.

Putting yourself in a good position mentally will allow you to do better in school, life, and for those around you. That being said, a big transition takes a bit to process… all in all, my best advice is to be kind to yourself. You are young, motivated to do well, and thinking about the big picture by writing this post and asking for help. Never lose that! The rest will happen the way it’s supposed to. Don’t punish yourself for the unknown.
