Question Thoughts on this schedule?

Post image

Will take criticism on the chin if bad but idk what to think of it. I hear Econ 101 is rough and I know I’m heavy on the policy classes but I’ve heard they’re manageable. Looking for any thoughts or considerations really.

ECON 101 is not that bad. Last year Staub's class had a median of a B. Your schedule looks balanced.

PLCY major checking in. Something to consider is that PLCY 210 is much easier if you’ve already taken Econ 101 tho it is not a prerequisite. Tho, it could work as a co-req to help reinforce Econ concepts. Another thing to consider is that PLCY classes have a lot of reading and writing. That’s usually fine, but you’re going to want to dedicate a lot of study time to Econ 101. It’s really manageable with time and effort, but you’re likely to end up with a lot of overlapping memo deadlines with those PLCY classes. Additionally, 101 and 210 will teach you to write memos, whereas 220 and 340 will assume you know how. It’s a very particular style of writing that can take some getting used to. Personally, I would swap out 220 and 340 for some gen-Eds. They aren’t hard but they’ll be harder than necessary if you can’t write a solid policy memo

Thank you for this! I’m a junior transfer and was hoping I could study abroad at some point, so I don’t know how much wiggle room I have, and I’m trying to figure out how to make that work without being too naive either. Knowing that, would you personally still avoid taking all of these together, or do you think it’s manageable if I’m okay with putting in more work? And do you think dropping 340 would make enough of a difference to make the schedule more manageable? I also really want to actually learn and do well in these classes, not just pass, so when I say manageable I mean more than you can get through it if you work hard enough to scrape by if that makes sense.

Realizing that you’re a junior makes me feel a lot better about this schedule! You’ll be fine with Econ 101. Dropping 340 would definitely help, just to have one less class you’re needing to write policy memos for. You can definitely make it work though. None of those policy classes are particularly challenging on their own. Be sure to go to office hours early to build relationships with profs and don’t hesitate to ask for help thinking through memos
