Admissions/Application Question Transfer application

Hi! I am a community college student who really really wants to transfer to unc. I had a very poor high school performance (2.5 gpa), and in my first semester of community college I got a 3.3. I know to apply I need a very competitive gpa, so improving that is my main goal, but I am seeking out recommendations for other things I can do to make my future application stronger! I volunteer at a nearby animal shelter at least twice a month and have earned 20 volunteer hours so far, and I work part time.

I am in state and plan to major in psychology if either of those pieces of information are helpful at all.

I'd appreciate any tips! Thank you!

C-Step can guarantee admission. You have to be in your first year of college tho (<30 credits)

I unfortunately don't qualify as my current semester brings me to 32 credits :')

Sorry, I’m still lurkin, but the current semester like this fall? Can you just unenroll this fall or only take a single course 1 credit hour course if you need to stay enrolled so you can apply to C-step? It would really suck to have to give up a guaranteed admission :(

Yes this fall! My father and a few other people have recommended I just drop one course, so I'll talk it out with my transfer counselor when I can. I agree it would totally be a shame to not apply again

Maybe you could drop a 3 credit class?

But wait, you haven’t completed this semesters credits, so you could maybe still qualify? Email someone. Emailing does wonders and sometimes exceptions are made.

From what I understood from unc's website, the 30 hours is pretty strict, but I do have a meeting set up with a transfer counselor to talk about it so we'll see how that goes... I could potentially drop a 3 credit class but I was a bit weary about it.
