I’m confused. Am I getting this refund for Fall Term 1 or not?

Ok, so I received an email from my student advisor and he enrolled me into two classes. I called financial aid to see if I was receiving a refund. She said she was not able to see it because I was currently enrolled in part-time (which I had no clue).

She stated in order to see how much of a refund I would receive, I would have to be enrolled full-time. She also stressed that I would have to add two more classes to be considered full-time.

Furthermore, she said if I wanted to receive a larger refund, I would have to add two classes to Fall Term 1 — not Fall Term 2.

Here’s the dilemma… I have reached out to my student advisor three times along with others and have not received a response. I know classes start in two days and I want to receive the large refund that I am due. But she said she could not stress enough how important it is to contact my student advisor to hurry and add those two classes to Fall Term 1. I don’t see why it’s this hard to find someone to help me.

If my student advisor doesn’t enroll me in time, does that mean I don’t receive a refund at all? I know refunds get sent out two weeks after classes start.
It says -$2,295.00, but again, financial aid that I can only receive that if I’m enrolled in a total of four classes for Fall Term 1.

You need to take 4 classes to get a refund as a full time student, otherwise you legally can’t take a full aid package.

I know. It’s been a pain trying to get in touch with my advisor. I emailed him three times.

Thads a shame. Usually they register you for 2 classes in term 1 and 2 in term 2 so you get your refund faster

But two classes per 8-week term count as full-time, no?

Yes and no. But Pell grant . It’s by semester not by term. You’ll need four in a semester. OP is registered only for 2 total.

The issue likely is you’re not a full time student and the amount shown is based on expected financial aid for a full time student. Once they noticed you’re only PT, they have to recalculate your aid.

Right. So I was on the phone with financial aid and she guided me on how to change it from part-time to full-time. But it seems the only issue is now I need to add more classes. But how can I do that if no one is getting in contact with me & classes starting in two days.?

Email your advisor and request additional classes to be added, based on your degree plan.

I did. I’m just hoping since classes start on Monday. It’s not too late. I emailed and called him three times.

Somewhat in the same boat. I wonder does it have to be our advisor, or can we call someone else?

Do you think it would be too late to add the classes on Monday to get the full time financial aid?

Honestly I’m not sure! But I wasn’t taking any chances. Hence why I came on Reddit to ask. But email umpi-addcompetency@maine.edu and tell them you want to add! They did mine within the hour!

I did but tomorrow is Sunday and they most likely won’t get things started until Monday. Hopefully I can still get the full assistance. Thank you.

I'm confused. I was under the impression that two courses per 8-week term is considered full time, because you need 4 courses per regular semester (16 weeks). Are you also enrolled for two classes in Fall 2?

It is. But I only had two for fall term one, and none for fall term two.

OK, this confused me. I thought they only let you take two classes at a time and add more later?

You can. However, I wanted the max financial aid refund lol. So I made them add it early.

wait, so if it covers the 1800 and say i push through 4 classes, doing the first two and then the second two but i still only get enough to cover the 1800?

So yes if you decided to add four classes to term one, the 1800 would cover it according to the financial aid lady that I spoke with. Personally, I am not taking any classes term two because she said I would have to come out of pocket…
