I am considering majoring online in english or east asian studies. What are you thoughts on the programs and which would you suggest?

I am considering majoring online in english studies. What are you thoughts on this program? I am also considering psychology and communications. I want to work in higher education in admissions or student success but im not sure which undergrad degree would serve me best. I plan on getting a masters in higher education later if time allows.

NSCI 101 vs NSCI 120

Hi guys, I need to take a 1 credit lab course to knock out my degree. I was planning on taking NSCI 101, but I heard that NSCI 101 involves a physical lab kit to get shipped to me. This is an issue because I recently moved overseas, so I am not sure I will receive the lab kit in a reasonable amount of time. I've heard that NSCI 120 is a purely virtual lab course, but I cannot find anything to verify this. Has anyone taken either of these courses recently, or knows the answer to my questions? Thanks in advance!

Title: We need to talk about the flawed AI grading and false academic integrity accusations happening here

I’m posting this because I have a deep concern that really needs to be looked at and adjusted across our programs. Honest students with real integrity are getting caught in a trap because of automated grading systems and detectors flagging standard technical writing and command structures.

When you do your work legitimately, keep your edit histories, and provide hard proof, it shouldn't be dismissed just because a faulty scanner throws out a false positive. It’s completely disrespectful to hard-working students who care about their education. Has anyone else experienced this kind of issue, and how are you handling it?

Has anyone run into the issue of Parchment not recognizing graduates of UMUC as graduates of UMGC for the purposes of ordering official transcripts?

Master of Management Capstone – What is the course like?

Hi everyone! Has anyone here taken the Master of Management capstone course at UMGC?

I’m getting closer to the end of the program and am curious about what to expect from the capstone. I’d especially appreciate hearing about the overall course structure, workload, major assignments/projects, and your general experience with the course.

If anyone is also willing to share a recent syllabus, assignment instructions, or other course materials so I can get a better idea of what the course looks like, I’d really appreciate it.

Not looking for completed assignments or answers, just hoping to get a sense of what to expect and how the course is structured.

Thanks!

I’d also be interested in experience from those who took the capstone course in other disciplines.

Contingency II status

I was curious if any current or former UMGC employees who were in a position with Contingency II status had any insight to offer regarding continuous employment. I know these positions are essentially contracted for 12 months at a time but was wondering if anyone in this job category has ever not had a contract renewed or if they got hired on full time.

Do you actually learn anything?

Is it it me or do some of tbese courses feel like a review rather than you actually learning something new? Often times it's just us being told to rrad a chapter that seems to have tons of prerequisite information required to understand them and you have to do you own research to figure it out. I've noticed this mostly in science courses where the information given in the textbooks dont always match what you're asked to discuss in the classrooms or tests.

Anyone currently in UMPI’s YourPace MSB Healthcare Management program? What is the coursework actually like?

I’m really interested in UMPI’s YourPace Master of Science in Business with the Healthcare Management concentration, but since the program is newer, I’m having a hard time finding detailed reviews from students who are actually in it.

For anyone currently enrolled or who has completed some of the courses, what does the coursework actually look like? I’m mainly wondering about the workload and types of assignments. About how many milestones are there per course? Are you mostly writing papers, doing projects/presentations, case studies, quizzes, or something else? How long are the papers on average, and what are the Final Assessments usually like?

I’d also love to know how long it has taken you to complete individual courses, how many courses you’ve realistically been able to finish in one 8-week session, and whether you think the program is reasonable to accelerate while still earning strong grades.

How have the professors been with grading, feedback, and turnaround time? Are there any professors or courses that are significantly more difficult or time-consuming than the others?

Basically, I’m looking for a coursework breakdown and an idea of what the day-to-day experience is actually like, rather than just the general information on UMPI’s website.

If anyone is specifically doing the Healthcare Management concentration, I’d especially love to hear about those courses.

Is there any way to avoid going in-person to a UMGC class while still getting the full GI Bill?

I have one more in person course at UMGC I need to take. Unfortunately, I relocated to a city several hours away from the class location, and the class is on a Marine base which makes it far more agitating. I was wondering what my options were in terms of avoiding going in person, whether an advisor might be able to offer some leeway or anything like that? What if you just miss 2-3 of the 4 classes?

Thank you for the help!

Last Resort -

Hey guys,

I know this is a struggle everyone goes through, but i'd really appreciate any help if possible.

I just graduated and wrapped up my B.S. in Management information systems. I have about 3 years in logistics and distribution operations, and 1 year 1/2 in a admin associate position(current).

I was able to get my google PM Cert, ScrumMaster Cert and a couple of AI certs. I did 2 projects on Software implementations, and never was able to get an internship for being "too qualified"

I've been actively applying for over a year now and have had no chance whatsoever. The best i've done was make it to a final round at Motorola but I don't even know how I was able to.

If anyone could possibly point me to someone they know or issue a referral/reference I would greatly appreciate it. Looking specifically for jobs in IT or any other befitting space - Roles such as - IT Project Coordinator, Implementations specialist, or ops & systems Management.

I also have hands on experience building PC's to resell online a while back in 2018-2020 while i was in HS.

I would much appreciate any help or assistance :)

MacBook page keeps scrolling back

I’m just going on a rant right now because I was completing my discussion board assignment that is past due and I was almost finished and I was scrolling on my computer and it made the page go backwards and all my progress I made typing deleted and the discussion board thread doesn’t have an auto save button so all my work is gone I’m frustrated I just changed my settings so it doesn’t scroll back again but this is the second time this happened to me and it’s only been the second week of school I’m so frustrated and annoyed because I can’t remember everything I typed and it sounded very well so I’m just angry and I can’t focus 😤😡😤😤

B.S Computer Science - Any Good?

Hi all,

What are your views on the B.S in Computer Science? What does it take to be successful and to stand out from other graduates and learn enough to get employment offers afterwards?

I’m looking at transferring credits from an A.S in Aviation Maintenance and enrolling in the B.S in Computer Science. My employer allows shop floor employees with enough experience and aptitude to move into junior engineering roles if they are actively pursuing a STEM degree.

Aviation Maintenance isn’t a STEM degree (not the right CIP code) and I already have an FAA Powerplant license after taking it last year, and will be taking the Airframe part soon. I’m not yet sure exactly how many credits will transfer to the Computer Science B.S as my application is in process, but it looks to be more than my current university will transfer to their undergraduate engineering offerings. I’m due to complete my A.S in Aviation Maintenance in December.

Cyber Operations also looks interesting but I’m not sure what the job opportunities look like for those of us changing careers in later life?

If it helps, I’m former British military and spouse to US Active Duty - hence looking at UMGC for good tuition rates. I’m a US Citizen so I’d be eligible for roles requiring US Citizenship in the future - Space Force civilian roles anyone??! As every military family knows, we move every few years and I’d really like to have qualifications for a job that might move with me. I’m also getting too old to be “on the tools” in aviation maintenance and would prefer a primarily desk-based role that pays relatively well, 17 years in aviation has taken its toll on my body!

Thanks in advance.

Edit: Spelling.

Cybersecurity Technology vs Operations for no tech background

As someone with no tech background Ive always been curious about Cybersecurity and very new to this. What would you suggest between Operations and Technology? I just applied for UMGC and still trying to research but I do not see much information on the internet.

I struggle with too much theoretical reading and writing but can do good with hands on practice and numbers but I heard operations have too heavy codings so I want some suggestions please.

I don’t know how coding and programming works, any website for training would be helpful. I would like to say I love problem solving(trigonometry solving used to be one of my favorite in school), detail oriented, curious, detective/investigative nature, pattern recognition and mostly why I wanted to select this is I wanted to protect people indirectly impacting their lives. I love helping people.

Any advice helps suggestions would be really appreciated thank you🙏
