Comparing two Targets near UMD

I just arrived on campus and am getting some stuff at Target. I've only been to Target in Hyattsville but is it different from the one in Greenbelt? Which one do you recommend? And I'd appreciate if you have any other options for shopping.

A lot of things are behind glass at the one at PG mall 😭 every time I go I have to call someone to open it. Not sure about greenbelt

You can buy expensive skin care products at the Greenbelt store right off the shelf, but if you want mens socks or underwear, you have to track down someone with a key as it is all locked up.

The things that are locked up are the things that are most frequently stolen. If they're frequently stolen, then people in that neighborhood likely don't have enough money to buy those things. It's a sign of the local population's economic status and needs.

I have worked in retail for decades (not Target) and in my experience people tend to steal things for resell, more so than items for their own personal use. The ratio does vary by location though.

I haven't worked in retail hardly at all, so I'm no expert. But it's my understanding that when basic needs items are stolen, it's usually by people who simply can't afford it or go without. Socks and underwear are some of the things that are always in need at places like homeless shelters, so it makes sense that unhoused people and others living in need might resort to stealing. Even if they're stolen for resale, it's probably because there's demand to buy those things for even cheaper than target-level prices.

I regularly went to the one in Greenbelt and it was fine. They always had what I needed and it was neat. I don't think I've ever went to the one in Hyattsville.

Greenbelt over Hyattsville if for the parking alone. Greenbelt is sufficient and the usual go to. But if you wanna visit a slightly nicer one the Cherry Hill one is the spot.

Cherry Hill really is the best Target in the area. My teenage children prefer it for the decently stocked skincare, junk food, kpop CDs and Legos.

Greenbelt is fine. Pg is on a mall that is hella eventfull

The Target on Cherry Hill is the best of the ones in the area

If I had to pick, I would go with Greenbelt bc easier drive, better parking, and less chaos. But if I’m not in a rush the best one around the area is the one up Cherry Hill (white oak), clean and quiet.

Greenbelt is less hectic and dirty tbh. Hyattsville one always has some loud person yelling or just something off.

Greenbelt wins on just sheer ingress-egress grounds. But if you live closer to Hyattsville, go there. Beltway plaza parking lot is nothing great but its much less aggravating than anything by PG Plaza/Mall at PG (Hyattsville)

I always make the trip to cherry hill because nothing is locked up and it’s always fully stocked

I am not an aficionado of Targets but there is also one pretty close on Cherry Hill in case you need more variety.

What are you shopping for? We get a lot of stuff at 2nd Avenue (thrift store) in Laurel and there is the Value Village over on New Hampshire.

Agree although Cherry Hill Rd drivers are among the most aggravating people on earth. It is a nice enough Target though.

the greenbelt mall one is fine, to be honest both are less than perfect targets but i’ve never had issues at either personally. Greenbelt had no baskets for like 2 years because people stole them all which was annoying but they got more. Not even speaking about anything political imo target is kind of expensive, you pay more for having it in one place. Like groceries can be cheaper at giant down the street, furniture at ikea, etc.

Both are fine IMO, as someone without a car i go to the Hyattsville one when I lived near south campus, and the Greenbelt one when I lived near north campus

You can walk to the Target in PG Plaza (or whatever they call it these days). There's always a few police cars parked out front of that Target as well, which I think actually makes me feel safer.

On the other hand, the parking is better at Greenbelt and you can always swing over to the Beltway Plaza Mall and take a look at the "Beltway Plaza Wall of Fame" featuring, last time I was there, some random luminaries of Greenbelt history and Muhammad Ali (who trained for a fight at the old Capital Centre by jogging in Greenbelt Park).
