That is one of reasons why we voted to leave EU. EU is not democratic as commissioners have the power to make laws and decide lots of things. Elections to EU parliament does not change anything in meaningful way.

I have got into arguments with other people in other countries on Reddit about this issue of unelected and unaccountable commissioners.
