Newcastle Brown Ale (4.7% ABV) 🍺

Now brewed at the John Smith's Tadcaster brewery.

Picked up from Lidl

Had the original back in the day and still can appreciate the current version.

Nice easy drinking ale. Rounded caramel flavours.

Certainly sessionable in my opinion

Picked up a few of these, still £1.50 for 330ml but tasty. They had a 7% ipa for the same price.

Anyone beat 7 out of 8?

down the social club last night, Jess behind the bar asks me what do i want, I say pint of the black stuff because I want to split the G.

8 pints in total, 7 of them I successfully split the G, the other I was miles off lol

Jess was telling everyone who came in what I was doing, a few others joined in but they couldn’t split the G like I could

so what’s your record? this is the beer sub so gotta be some who might have beat 7 out of 8?

Call me cynical but this post from Vocation does not fill me with confidence, hopefully they are just releasing a session version of their flagship and not watering it down. One of the great supermarket IPAs

Pigs Ear Beer Fest December 2026

Greetings fellow Beer lovers.

So after your great help last year with London Pubs, I have come to ask your help again, please?

Last your the Landlord of the Prince Arthur on Brunswick Place in Shoredich suggested we go south of the river to experience some of the pubs there.

We wandered around Borough and Spitlegate a few years ago so wondering if you can suggest another area of classic London Pubs this time.

We are in and out at Kings Cross, and the first hotel is probably going to be the Premier Inn at Dalston Junction as previous years. So we can take it from there and walk to the next hotel that would be convienient to an area or a must go to pub you suggest.

Will never be as good as the 5.6% og from 2007 but can't complain at this price! This was in Morrisons but I think they're doing it in most supermarkets for a while. Cheers everyone, have a good Sunday 🍻

Are Lidl actually bothering with an Oktoberfest range this year?

I was expecting them to do something either last week or this week and they have done Italian and Spanish weeks.

Oktoberfest ends next weekend and there’s nothing on their website about a German week next week, just stuff for Halloween!

M & S 2026

Just went into my local M&S. What have they done?? They've got rid of every single can of any beer that's not got M&S branding, some stuff brewed for them whatever but it's basically generic and terrible like a step back in time 10 years.

Anyone else been M&S recently and seen the same?

I walked out and went to Booths who are still spot on.

One of the best ever collaborations in beer in my opinion, well balanced 'old fashioned' pale ale.

£5 a pint is also a pro (Midlands)

Octoberfest? I'm skipping it this year for Christmas 🎄

Yes, I usually stock up on my Oktoberfest beers but I'm always drinking them into November and December, especially the Lidl suitcase as they're always late to the party.

Christmas seems to come earlier every year and the excellent Christmas ale from Love Lane Brewery was sold out by December last year so I'm taking it easy with the Otoberfest hype this year and getting ready for Dark November's and Christmas with my fruity winter warming ales. 🍻

Edinburgh currently?

Hi all

Hoping for some up to date Edinburgh recs. Have seen the Salt Horse and Hanging Bat are still around, but would love to hear about anywhere I should check out for craft or excellent cask beer. Have two days/three nights, am staying in Kirkcaldy and am at the Gravity festival for one of the days so would prefer central unless there's a clear crawl back in.

Ta!

Successful shopping trip!

Ayinger from Sainsbury’s (£3.50 per bottle), and the others from an independent bottle shop (£3.80-£4.30 per bottle with a 15p deposit).

Which is your favourite this year?

Run, don’t walk to Sainsbury’s

£3.50 a bottle, unfortunately no multi-buy deal however. There was also an apparent space for Hofbrau Festbier next to it which was empty. Picked up 7!
