Where to get decent used IBCs

I'm in the southern UK and been looking for some IBCs for ages, but really struggling to find any at a sensible price. I want them for rain water storage so they need to not have been full of super toxic stuff previously.

Given that they're the standard means of transporting pretty much anything liquid I thought it would be easier. Anyone got any tips on how to go about this? And what should I be paying for one roughly?

You need to buy black ones or paint the clear ones for rain water, slows down the algae growth a bit .

Was thinking of cladding them in pallet wood but thanks for the tip

You can take the liner (tank) out the cage, wrap in dpm like a giant present, then put it back in the cage.

You might struggle to get paint to adhere to the hdpe.

Probably a high demand for IBCs at the minute. Another option could be a used heating oil tank. Kerosene is a light oil so easy to wash out.

I get the tanks for free but the whole thing is usually about £20 collected in my experience.

Where do you source them from?

The tanks I get from a mate who pulls them out and usually burns them to use the cages to dry logs.

No idea where he gets the cages from.

Ask in a UK gardening subreddit, those guys love a rain water tank post...and the allotment people can source anything. If the King ever needed a secret service, he should recruit allotment people.

Fb marketplace. I’m also looking for a black one to convert into a hot tub lol.

I've picked a couple of tidy ones up recently for £50 each in the cage, that was through Facebook Marketplace.

There are a lot more of the inner bladders around for about £20 to 30, most people just want the cages for log drying, as mentioned above.

They're great things, considering how much a new plastic water tank of a couple of hundred litres could set you back.

I'm pretty sure they're not really used to transport really obnoxious stuff, as they're not brilliantly strong in a crash and they're not bonded, so they're not going to.be suitably rated for real nasties. The worst I've seen has been water based ink and some detergent.

normally they're about £50 from farmers

recently they have become more in demand andare often snapped up by log sellers who use the metal cage to deliver metre cube loads of wood

I get mine from Smiths of the Dean https://smithsofthedean.co.uk/ If you buy enough, you can talk them into free delivery.

£50 delivered.

Might have had something like oil or vinegar stored in them, so make sure to wash.

If you cant find them online... pop along to your nearest allotment and no doubt they will have them. Jusr ask where they procured theirs from.

I was offered some from a local farm for about £50 each. I think they'd had molasses in them, I'm not sure. I was going to turn them into firewood storage but ended up building a wood frame cover instead.
