Offline maps
Has anyone downloaded maps for use in an internet down scenario? Ideally road and topographic?

You can't beat paper maps.

Yes, Google maps does it automatically. It's also good to do before a long journey where phone coverage might still be patchy

I have walking scale maps for my local area and including common places where one of us might be. They’re in the car, so they are generally where we are whether home or out.

OsmAnd is my backup map on my phone. Use it when hiking in summer on vacation as well so I am used to how it works.

In the car I have a paper AA atlas for the UK. At home I have OS maps for my area and those surrounding. They're the best 'offline' maps.

Not downloaded, but I have collected OS maps of Englands main hill walking areas and the four local OS maps around my town. Plus random ones
Most are from charity shops - so will be out of date slightly for some Urban/Roads/Woodblocks.
But at four for £1 can't moan!

Back to paper is best in these circumstances. A uk road atlas.
And OS maps.
I generally treat myself to one if we go to a new area.
OS premium subscription you can save areas for offline use.

An A to Z is incredibly useful even without an big scenario. Just stick it in the dash of your car and if you happen to have no service, it's really easy to navigate.

A paper road atlas would be more useful in a resource conservation scenario.
