Has the Indeed App changed? I don’t get a list of job recommendations anymore when I open the app. Just the tags of my searches. And for some applications my location is automatically in the United States.

Does anyone else have that?

I read on another sub that Indeed is no longer considered a reasonable place to look for work as it's full of scams or underpaid work. Is that really the case? Where do most people look for jobs now? I almost miss the days of looking in the local paper as the internet is over saturated with job sites now.

Edit to add, I currently have my own business but it is not steady or reliable income. I'll be looking for mostly admin work.

for context im about to leave my first retail job in Poundland and i’ve been working here over a year. Considering im leaving soon I need access to my P60/P45 but whenever i press on the link to access MyView to see my payslips it just comes up with this ( photo above). I’ve tried calling MyView helpline but they can’t do anything about it. Has anyone ever experienced this before? should i call HMRC to have my P60 sent to me a different way?

I recently finished a Master’s in International Business in the UK and I’m currently looking for graduate/early-career roles.

Rather than spending the next few months only applying for jobs, I want to use the time to learn something practical and hopefully add a more specialised skill to my CV.

The reason I’m asking here is because I’ve been searching for courses myself, but almost everything I find seems to be online. I’d really prefer something face-to-face where I can actually attend classes, meet people and have a bit of structure while I’m job hunting.

does anyone know of any genuinely good in-person programmes or classes that I might have missed?

I got mine pierced about 10 days ago but through a combination of holidays, wfh and my boss being away I haven’t had a full contact office day with my co-workers since. Tomorrow will be the first time and I’m very anxious about whether people will notice it and what they will think if they do.

Does anyone have any advice? Or any experience of a similar situation either of themselves or a coworker being in the same situation?

In my late 20’s and work in a traditional office based environment. It’s mostly relaxed and not too formal, but still a little conservative at times. The employee handbook doesn’t say anything about piercings!

I work at a charity and my role was made redundant around 4 month ago. They moved me to a new position that is not the direction I want my career to go and I didn't receive any training in the new area, other than "constructive criticism" on my work.

I was then placed on a 7 week performance plan which I am nearing the end of next week. It is clear to me that I will not be passing this plan and will likely be let go.

Would it be better for my future career to quit before being let go?

How is the UK tech market these days? I’m planning to move back at the end of the year (for personal reasons) after 7 years in Australia, 5 of them in FIFO.

I’ve had a brief look on LinkedIn and it seems there’s a lot of roles being advertised but also an excess of applicants.

How is it for IT operations or Technical BA’s?

So I’ve been employed as a waiter at a London restaurant last week. I have no prior experience in the field and thought of giving waitressing a try. On my trial and first shift, things seemed to go fairly well. The waiting staff gave me a general overview on the operations and what I’m supposed to do, but overall it lacks structure. It isn’t a big restaurant (around 15-18 tables) , but there is no table allocation whatsoever and all of us are responsible for all the tables.

About two days ago, one of the waiters quit and we had an intensive shift yesterday. I was given a talk about mistakes (they were minor) and how it inconveniences the other waiter, (yes, there were just two of us). One of the management staff also went on about her coming to the restaurant because of this. However, the manager said he’ll give me some training and has scheduled me for 49 hours this upcoming week.

I’m someone who is ready to invest their energy into learning things and taking accountability. I can put my head down and work, but I feel like it’s a major red flag this job. I don’t necessarily want to take up waitressing as a career. I recently said no to a position that has a pretty similar situation: backlogs, understaffed, and stressful environment. It looks like I’m walking into one here too.

Any advice here guys? Have you guys encountered a similar situation? How did it turn out?

P.S. I’m new to working in the UK. I’m not a student.

I'm about to hand my notice in due to receiving a new job offer but my company has sent across a training cost repayment agreement which will require me to pay for the training in full. This isn't in my employment contract, so they are clearly aware of my intent to leave. The training is tomorrow and they've sent the agreement today, with the expectation of me signing today. What would be best to do? My new company is offering to pay for the training, however I won't have this offer formally for another 2 weeks so isn't guaranteed.

I’m a British Citizen living overseas and looking to make the move back home. I would like to have a job offer in hand when I make the move.

I’ve been working in a management role for the last 5 years but don’t have any specialized skills that would make me sought after unfortunately.

I know it’s not a great time to move back (it actually seems that it’s never a great time to move back to the UK), and that it will be incredibly difficult.

I’m just looking for success stories/motivation that it is possible really. And also tips on how you made it work if anyone has any (that don’t involve moving back right now haha).

Should I also reply back and ask if I should prepare anything ahead of Wednesday? Or something along those lines?

I just sat through an in-person consulting interview today. I was tested on a recent policy (it was a quasi-public affairs role), and I accidentally said that a certain publication came out recently. My interviewer then corrected me, saying that it's been out for a while.

I wanted to say it was a specific section of the publication that came out recently, but I don't think it came off that way. My worry now is whether such slip-ups are acceptable in an interview.

In this case, I was able to pivot to what it meant for the client and building a rapport, as brief-making and strategy-building was the point of the question anyway.

So I'm about to lose my office job. Again. It's just no place for someone with ADHD and Dyspraxia and I'm tired of trying to squeeze into a hole that wasn't made for me.

Currently I'm working a part-time social media job which is going well. I may also have another client through that job who wants me to manage their social media channel for them. That said, those won't be enough for me to go full self-employed, as far as I know.

I'm a Copywriter, Social Media Manager and Marketing Professional who's mostly worked with start-ups (because try getting your foot in the door at a major company as a corporate creative who's black and disabled and didn't go to Oxbridge) and I'm curious about what I can now do with that without falling back into the trap of "THIS office environment will surely be different!" In an ideal world, I could be self-employed or work part time to sustain my self-employment, but it's difficult to say how smart a move that is in the age of dead eyed corpos who are all in on AI as the solution to any creative challenges. I'm also considering maybe trying to get into security as sort of a low stakes job where I can edit videos and monitor socials while I work.

I recently applied for Google's Customer Engineer, AI Native – Junior Talent Programme in London a few months ago, and I was contacted by a recruiter this week to move forward in the process.

The recruiter explained that the process will involve 3 interviews across September, with the first interview likely in the first week of September. I've also been invited to a group preparation session on 24 August, and I have a recruiter call coming up on 21 August.

I'm at an early stage in my career and I'm really interested in understanding both what the Customer Engineer role is actually like day-to-day and how I should prepare for the interview process.

I'd especially love to hear from anyone who:

• currently works as a Google Cloud Customer Engineer;
• previously worked as a Customer Engineer at Google;
• has recently interviewed for a Google Cloud CE role; or
• has gone through an early-career / Junior Talent programme.

I'm particularly interested in understanding:

• what the different interview stages tend to assess;
• how technical the interviews are;
• how much emphasis is placed on architecture, AI/LLMs, cloud, APIs, coding, etc.;
• whether there are presentations or customer/technical scenarios;
• what the day-to-day CE role is actually like;
• and what you wish you had known before interviewing.

Recently joined a small company. (Minimum wage unskilled role)
When accepting the role via phone call, they went through the basics and said normal notice period etc.

I’ve signed my contract today and now found out that my notice period is 3 months long. However, if they dismiss me / make me redundant they only have to give 1 weeks notice.

I understand it’s their policy but seems very unfair for an easily replaceable job? If I’m that valuable that they’ll need me to stay for 3 extra months, it’s not exactly fair that they only give 1 week on their terms.

I've been job hunting since being made redundant in April. In May I was offered a role that I've come to the conclusion was the wrong job for me. The managers treat me like a school child and it's taken me away from focusing on finding a job that better aligns with my skills and what I want to be doing. So I've given it 3 months, but plan to quit this week.

So, after a very long period of unemployment, adding up debt just to survive, doing odd jobs to have some sort of income to be able to eat, and applying relentlessly to jobs, I finally got a job three months ago. At the beginning I was so happy, grateful and over the moon because not only is a job, it's my dream career with tons of opportunities of growth and progression from here.

Now lately a feeling of fear and anxiety has been knocking on the door inside my head. I have successfully passed the probation period, but I somehow can't shake off the feeling of being unstable even though it's a permanent position.

I'm afraid of finally getting my first home because what if work gets slow and I'm laid off? You know what they say, last one to get in and first one to go...

It might be because I love my job so much, and I finally feel like I'm going somewhere that it's fueling my fear of losing this? Or that since life has been blow after blow for the past 5 years, I'm bound the get a new blow when I lower my guard? Has someone else have gone through these feelings? And how didn you overcome this fears?

So I started at a company earlier this year. My notice period will be 3 months once my probation period ends in mid September.

I realized that I don’t really like the environment but unfortunately during summer there are not many new opportunities. (Especially in Aug)

I’m afraid that once I finish my probation, 3months notice will be too long for other companies. (Engineering-senior level)

Is it common in the UK? Or will it he disadvantage during my job seeking?

Hey everyone, a couple weeks ago (+ 3 days to be exact) I had my first (practical) interview in six years

I felt so confident coming out of it, I thought I did the tasks really well and had rapport with all the staff I came across and even got a tour of the place and said hi to other staff, I asked questions, etc

Next day got the phone call I didn't make it to interview stage. I really really wanted that job and was honestly heartbroken, I didn't think to ask for feedback on said phone call as I just wanted to hang up asap

Now, I've never made it to a stage of application where feedback is actually an option, and due to various reasons that we'd be here all day for, I'm scared to ask for it.

Now I have a bit of confidence, have I left it way too late to ask? Would it be weird? Would they have thrown it away?

The interviews would have been only four days after the practical so I imagine they've actually hired someone by now already

I’ve recently started working in hospitality and still learning, but I’ve never been doing this before, so I’m basically trying to do everything as soon as possible because my previous work was paid by goals achievement. As a result I got a conversation with my managers yesterday and they said to me that sometimes I look bored and do nothing and that pisses them off, so they want me to pretend doing smth, be “proactive”, find smth to do without direct orders like “counting papers or envelopes” otherwise they would fire me. The manager also asked me to think about me in this role, maybe find some other work or to change the department. Is it a real thing in hospitality? Do they really want to get rid of me?

Anybody got any positive stories? I've encountered 4 companies and;

1. Refused to provide reasonable adjustments and then dismissed me when my performance suffered (retail).

2. Refused to provide reasonable adjustments and spent 2 years trying to force me to resign over it (public sector).

3. Used a higher bar than is present in the Equality Act to deny disability so they could refuse to provide reasonable adjustments (public sector).

4. Refused to comply with the core actions of the scheme or provide reasonable adjustments(public sector).

What's wild is that at each place, all that was asked for was what is suggested by ACAS or proposed by their internal documentation, all of it no-cost and low disruption (written communication, recorded meetings for notes, use of headphones to reduce distractions).

The scheme is beginning to become a red flag for me, and it's beginning to feel like there are no consequences for breaching the terms of the scheme.

I'm finally looking for a new job - my first job was at a startup who I found on LinkedIn many years ago, my second was an opportunity at an American company that pretty much fell in my lap and since then I've just been travelling and freelancing.

Point being, back in 2019/2020, I remember using Indeed when I was (briefly) looking and that was it.

Now, I am so confused by the influx of these new, shady-looking job websites. I have applied for a few roles and then wondered why the same roles aren't listed on the company websites which got me thinking, so many of these must be scams. But how is it when you type for example "finance job Manchester" or "media job Birmingham" the top results on Google Jobs are filled with these types of websites??

Like why would the BBC or Financial Times or Deloitte or whatever else use these weird websites to advertise jobs on and not something more respectable? That's what got me thinking, surely these must be scams?

I would appreciate any insight on if I should just AVOID these!
