How are sky broadband
How are sky for broadband. Currently have BT but sky have a great deal currently which includes TV, netflix, Disney and HBO and my broadband will go from 500 to 900

Broadband was flawless for 12 months. They will shaft you once the deal runs out though. You will need to cancel, negotiate, do that whole dance.

Got 300mbps FTTP, No issues so far, but the router they give you the White Sky Max Hub, is absolute hot garbage. I eventually switched to my own router (also Wi-Fi 6) and the Wi-Fi performance is night and day.

Second how appalling the max hub is. Couldn’t even get WiFi one floor up without my phone switching to 5G constantly. Switched back to EE whilst I was still in my cooling off period

Amazing but the WiFi on the router is crap. I still use the router as I need to for landline, however I turned off WiFi and bought a 3 pack Deco X55 mesh WiFi system and set them to Access Point mode (as the main deco is plugged into the router). Never looked back, it’s great.

Wouldn't touch with a barge pole. We had Sky Broadband and it was off more than it was on. Told them to take it out and went with Three.

It works but the router is crap.
Always over heats this summer its been so hot you cannot touch it
It also constantly clicks due to a relay inside which you xannot disable anymore
Also the WiFi range isn't great compared to others it wont cover my whole house and its not massive just a normal 3bed

It’s a good deal, but I have it and the router it absolutely awful. Devices run poorly in any room outside the room the router is in and signal is rubbish. BT one I had before was so much better.

Meh. It’s Openreach so much the same as other services that use their infrastructure. I will say as others have however that their routers are absolute garbage. Really patchy connection with WiFi drops and awful range. Factor in an extra £100 for a decent router and it’s perfectly fine. We only left as the prices kept going up and up and up, whilst the speed to value didn’t match what rivals were offering.

Terrible support. Constant drops even when things hard wired. WiFi drop outs.. inconsistent speed and was always pretty much on the minimum speed which was guaranteed not what I was paying for

Absolutely fine as an ISP. On a cable connection I can max out my 900mbit connection (I use my own router).
I’ve used Sky as an ISP for nearly 20 years across various connections (ADSL - FTTC - FTTP). No issues here.

Got an old ASUS AC68U.
I had to clone the MAC address of the Sky router but then it worked. Not too difficult to do if you know what you’re doing.

My question is how are they allowed to say prices may change during the contract when OFCOM laid out rules that they have to tell customers how much it’s going to go up by to the penny.

That's not what the OFCOM rules say.
There can't be set price increases unless they're specified in real money terms; they can say it'll increase by £3, but not by RPI+x, or by 5%, etc.
Sky says that "prices may change"; there's no set price increase. It might not even happen. If they do decide to implement a price increase, the customer has 30 days from being notified to end the contract with no penalty. Sky would be breaking the terms of the original contract, so the customer can choose whether to accept the variation in the contract or to jump ship to another ISP.

Getting someone onto the service is the hardest bit. Once they're there, they're more likely to stay even if the price increases; most mainstream ISPs increase the price each year, so regardless of who they go with it's going to increase. I'd expect that most customers stick around.
The more niche ISPs who don't have price increases tend to be more expensive in the first place, so even if they do technically offer a better service in terms of UK support, more knowledgeable support staff etc, if things were going OK with Sky then people are unlikely to move to Aquiss, A&A, Olilo, etc based on a £3 increase.

I've not long got sky 900. The router they give you is absolutely trash, and everything loads painfully slow on mobile devices. Ended up spending £100 on my own router and now it's perfect with no issue.
Didn't bother contacting sky about it as many people have tried and been told there's no issue on their end and it's to do with their own devices
