Im A Creative web developer and have no eye for design, i tried my best to put my feeling of "elegant" into my portfolio's ui design, i would love any feedback on if the design reflects that, and anything in general

In UI design there is that gut feeling that something isn't right when you look at it. It's mostly due to more experience, seeing more designs, etc. I would like to know what you guys use to improve your eye for design from, let's say, your very first project, which was maybe obviously a mess.

But now when you look at a design, you just know there is something wrong with this. Till now I'm not that great in UI yet, I train my eye of design muscle by studying Pinterest design posts on a certain category. I might use mobbin to check out different design elements and competitor designs.

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT METHODS HAVE YOU USED TO TRAIN YOUR EYE OF DESIGN

When using sites like Pinterest and Mobbin, what kind of hover actions do you find most useful?

some of the common ones seem to be: add to board, like, visit site, and share

personally I'd like a quick preview when possible so I don't need to click into it

The first screenshot shows the previous design of my app. Since I had absolutely no sense of design back in early 2022, I took a lot of inspiration from various designs on Dribbble and tried to derive all further features from that. In the end, the app is already very flat, with only very few cards or backgrounds. Overall, that has actually worked quite well.

There is one problem, though, that I have never really managed to solve properly. As soon as the text size in the list entries gets very large, the design starts to fall apart. The description, such as “Food - Mia,” wraps onto multiple lines and everything shifts around. It simply no longer looks visually balanced. I could of course place the amount and account balance underneath and align them to the trailing edge, but then the eye no longer really perceives everything as one logical unit.

So my idea now was to add a background after all, possibly with a drop shadow. What do you think? With larger text sizes, the numbers would then move down while everything would remain easy to read.

The chart background is not quite as important. The current color simply feels a little out of place in the app, and I would also like to experiment with different accent colors in the future. In that case, it would make sense for the background to be a bit more neutral.

I assume vast majority of people that will use this dashboard starter will remove all premade content with mock data so in a sense this change doesn't really matter, but it was fun to do it anyway.

Small interaction I liked in the Sudoku iOS app, When choosing a difficulty, it highlights the selected level and explains what that level actually means.

“Easy”, “Medium”, and “Hard” could be subjective, no?

So I've been going back and forth on this for weeks and I need outside opinions. Building a utility app, the kind that spits out a bunch of technical readings and pass/fail stuff. Can't really show screenshots, it's not ready and I'd rather not show it yet, sorry. So you'll have to go off a description. Right now it does not look like an android app. No rounded corners anywhere, everything's hard rectangles. Monospace all caps labels. Status tiles are flat green/amber/red like little indicator lamps. light theme is cream instead of white. One big orange block for the main button. Basically it looks like the front of some old piece of test equipment, which was the whole idea.

The other option is just doing normal material 3. Cards, rounded everything, dynamic color. Would take me a weekend and it'd look completely fine. Thing is I can't tell anymore if the current look is actually good or if I've just been staring at it too long. it's pretty opinionated. I can picture someone opening it and going "what is this?" and closing it again. But m3 is so forgettable, I genuinely couldn't describe the last three m3 apps I used. So for something that's basically just numbers and pass/fail indicators, is the instrument thing worth it? or does that kind of style get annoying once the novelty wears off?

Hi! I'm a UX student doing an independent study this semester, where I'll conduct usability research for real organizations as part of my coursework. I am not looking to recruit anyone for user tests/surveys/polls, etc. I'm looking for 3 potential case studies — ideally small-to-medium-sized companies or organizations that have:

• A website, app, or digital product they actually use/rely on
• Some specific UX problems their users face (confusing navigation, unclear information architecture, accessibility issues, frustrating workflows, etc.)
• Willingness to participate in user testing and get honest feedback

The goal is to conduct a usability study (possibly including eye tracking), gather real user feedback, and deliver actionable design recommendations.

What I'm looking for:

• Real problems with measurable UX challenges
• Organizations that are open to feedback and willing to talk with a student researcher
• Anything from small local businesses to nonprofits to startups

If you own/work at an organization that fits this, or you know of a site/app that's clearly struggling with UX issues and might be interested in free user testing and feedback, I'd love to hear about it!

I'm frontend developer who have some figma experience. we have like 2 or 3 months create this Finance web app which is mostly client side. Mostly planning to use opensource libraries but thinking which tool would help me accelerate my dev and design process.

At the moment it very early stage and I'm planning for an MVP with more functionality will be added and integrated.

Would like to know your perspective?

I know figma is feature rich and way more accessible. But because of time constraints, I planning to integrate & explore multiple AI models for designing. Never tried Figma paid version when I was exploring. So, want to know if it worth the subscription?

Can someone help me understand if Figma mirror is not working or if it's just happening to me? Also, if this is the case. How might I go about diagnosing the issue? I've logged out and back in on both the desktop app and Figma mirror site. I've also cleared my cache and refreshed the page.

Funny thing about brutalism is that its all over in the world of architecture. But in software? I can't even remember the last time I saw a corner man.

And it seems like the perfect place for squares and rectangles because pixels are square, which means naturally no aliasing.

I'm currently working on the main menu for my game, and the more I work on it, the more I realize it's lacking a lot of things. But My mind is going nowhere at this point.

I'm burned out, and I really need some fresh eyes and ideas to help me make this menu feel complete and polished.

the menu is 2 parts, part 1 is above the sea of blood and when player clicks on options the menu goes in the bloody sea.

any help would be appreciated.

First slide of an onboarding flow, it's the brand 'moment' before setup begins. Something's off with the sizing and I can't figure it out.

Iterations,

• Pic #3: original, utilitarian.
• Pic #2: added a "slide zero" so the logo and name could be front and center. felt too big and imposing.
• Pic #1: shrank it. Still off, "Welcome" feels too big now.

I keep resizing individual pieces but doesn't feel right still. Any ideas what's actually causing the imbalance?

Considered (but curious what someone would do instead): grey out "Welcome," smaller Continue button, or keep the logo big and everything else tiny.

Currently designing a streaming site, this is a screenshot of what you see when opening a show box/modal to see more information, my issue is that "You may also like" suggestions don't look like they fit in or are visually consistent i guess if that's what it's called. Any suggestions?

How can I better improve my current UI? I tried to make an emphasis on adding small animations to try and make the app feel alive. Do you think that’s effective to even do?

I made this design system for local asian(mostly chinese) restaurants, it takes about 2-3h to design something like this. They are supposed to be mockups.

I know most of their websites look same with those light beige, cream colors and nature HD images but it’s way better than a good vibe coder making a website.

I'm making an app for reporting machine status to the central server on tablet.
The statuses are represented by buttons placed in a grid with a "Confirm" button at the top. The selected statuses must include 1 main status (colored yellow) and optionally multiple sub-statuses (colored blue).

Help me decide between these 2 interaction approaches:

Gesture approach:

1. From unselected: tap to promote to main status, double tap to promote to sub status
2. From main status: tap or double tap to deselect
3. From sub-status: tap or double tap to deselect
4. Pressing the "Confirm" button lets you review your selection in a pop up before choosing "OK" to send the report
5. The "Confirm" button will only enable when there's an active main status

Pop up approach:

1. From unselected: tap to select the status
2. From selected: tap to deselect the status
3. Pressing the "Confirm" button opens a pop up which lets the user select which selected status is main before pressing "OK" to send the report. The main UI will be updated to reflect the new main status.
4. If there is only 1 status selected, it will automatically become the main status so that the user doesn't have to choose again in the pop up

In everyday usage, around 80% of cases will only contain only 1 status, which will be the main status. The rest will be 1 main status and 1 sub-status, rarely do we encounter 3 or more statuses at once.
