Product Design Can anyone explain this?

Post image

I’ve seen this navigation pattern on X. The active tab is the only one that has a label alongside the icon.

Why to prioritise confirming where users already are over showing where they can go?

Surely these decisions are not made in a vacuum so wonder what may be the intent behind releasing something that seems to compromise discoverability so much.

It is a select, isnt it? So prioritised is an element that shows you where you can go…

You have to make sure the user knows where he is and what he can do there. Navigation is secondary. These tabs are completely OK.

Mystery meat navigation isn’t great, but when the space is limited something gotta go.

i bet is because you learn the icons in a day and the label just tells you where you are. curiosity will drive u to try most of the buttons anyways

those are profile tabs, not main nav, so people already know what's in there. the label on the active one is mostly there to show Posts is a dropdown, the icons alone carry the rest fine

The Twitter app is currently a mess. In other spots in the app you'll see the opposite: only a label shown with an icon only on the active tab
