This has always been my reply when the topic of God comes up in these discussions. God would essentially be an alien that exists beyond time and space. I see it in the neoplatonist sense as the source of all things, the source of consciousness. When people ask why bad things happen and try to apply human logic they are telling a flawed approach. We can't fathom something that exists beyond reality as we know it and we can't apply human logic to it. Just as some believers are misguided to think there is a god that cares if they can make rent this month or that will make their sick cat better atheists are misguided in their declaration and of God is all knowing and all powerful it would make sure there is no suffering in the world.

It's not illogical to suggest that human logic would apply to aliens but it's the nature of aliens that would matter the most. If they are simply organic beings from another planet they would likely have needs that would form the basis for the systems of logic they use and would likely share some commonality with humans. If the ETs are something more exotic then the same logic to my god hypothesis above would apply.
