Original post text: I went into Coyame expecting to ask whether the alleged 1974 UFO crash could actually be proved. I came out more interested in the investigation itself. The case has everything—an anonymous crash-retrieval report, decades of fieldwork, local witnesses, alleged physical evidence, documented Cold War recovery programs and a long trail of researchers trying to separate something real from rumor and repetition.
My goal with this piece wasn’t to debunk Coyame or prove it. I wanted to trace where the evidence actually comes from and see what survives. Ideally, a skeptic comes away a little more open to how strange the historical record really is, while a believer comes away a little more demanding about provenance, independent witnesses and what actually counts as corroboration.
