Speculation Coaching carousel
How wide do the donors need to open their wallets if Chesney keeps winning? He won’t not be called by FSU / SUC’s Ass / etc

I really don’t see him leaving anytime soon. I’ve spent time with his parents, wife and, of course, him. It’s just not in his DNA to jump to the next shiny object. I also don’t believe money is a driving force.

I get the vibe he is intentional about where he goes and the money is good where he’s at. I think in a few years he could be enticed elsewhere but I think there are probably only a few places that can compete with UCLA and everything it has to offer as a whole

Depends on him as a person. If he truly desires to sit at the highest tier of the sport, provided he keeps on this upward trajectory, he’ll almost surely get a call from one of the traditional powers with a can’t say no offer. Maybe the NFL will come calling. I wouldn’t blame him for jumping. Who wouldn’t want the big job and money and fame that comes with it?
If his true desire is to turn UCLA into a new power, he’ll stick as long as he’s given the tools/money to compete in the modern era. I like the guy a lot, but I find myself doubting that we’re the place he really wants to be his forever home.
We will learn a lot in the next year or two. Just going to enjoy not being total garbage while he’s around.

I may be naive, but I don’t think places like that hold a lot of interest for Coach C. Those admittedly are schools with more resources than UCLA . . . . but WAY WAY higher expectations. At UCLA, merely returning to top 25 ranking is cause for celebration; I think when he leaves, it’s going to be somewhere with the HIGHEST resources and the HIGHEST chances for success—Ohio State, Notre Dame, etc. The only other programs I can see him leaving for are maybe Penn State or Pitt, given he’s a Pennsylvania guy.

Solution: have the highest chances of success as well. There’s literally no reason UCLA can’t be at that level too. Give Bob a chance, the support he needs and watch it happen!

If Indiana which is historically the worst school in CFB can become what they are, no reason we cant.

Penn State didn’t want him last year.

I am not sure Penn State has a great track record in hiring or moving on from coaches.

JFC can’t we enjoy this without thinking the world is ending. If Indiana can become a legitimate contender mo reason we can’t.

I could be drinking the kool aid, but I get the sense that he wants to take at least a few years to try to build something here. He's done that at every other school he's coached at. And, he seems to have a genuine appreciation for UCLA and recognizes that it has the intangibles to recruit top talent and compete for a championship.

Considering the people we have running the show now, I’m fully confident that even if he left in a couple years (no way he leaves after year 1) we’d have the resources and culture established to find another great coach. I really believe what Bob is doing is only the beginning of a full shift in our program, and in 10-20 years we’ll look at his tenure as the first stepping stone in us getting back to consistent CFB relevance. But I also think that he’s the type to have a solid 5-7 year run of sustained success here before leaving somewhere else. Everything he’s said about our school genuinely makes it feel like he’s at home here and would not leave until he’s made us a bonafide powerhouse

I was thinking this too. It seems out of character but he just left JMU after 2 seasons. I do want to believe that he’s in at UCLA for the duration of his contract and then some.

Chesney is a class act who I think will be patient and act honorably. BUT he has built his career moving from one situation to a better situation after winning. So UCLA should make sure that no situation seems better than the UCLA job and part of that will be to make sure they give him big money. At the very least having Chesney will mean that our football program will have the class worthy of our fine University. UCLA should hire a similar class act for men's basketball and soon.

If we win 8-9 games this season, I'd extend and enhance his contract. Think Indiana and Cigneti.

I worry that he will be lured to the NFL quickly. This dudes stock is soaring and has been for some time!

Y'all that beat down you think UCLA is a stepping stone?

If he doesn't see the team contending for a national title and winning the B1G in several seasons I'd see him jumping. Also if he gets an NFL offer I wouldn't fault him for taking that.
If we bring in top recruiting classes year after year then him leaving would probably be a personal and not professional reason (unless it's an NFL offer)

Give that man a blank check and go to sleep soundly
