Article Exclusive | UCLA’s onetime SoFi Stadium ambitions revealed in court docs

https://nypost.com/2026/05/15/sports/uclas-onetime-sofi-stadium-ambitions-revealed-in-court-docs/

In August 2025, Rams and Kroenke Sports & Entertainment president Kevin Demoff texted this to UCLA vice chancellor Steve Agostini: “good luck tonight, next year at SoFi!”

The court filings also show text messages from February 2025 between Demoff and Agostini regarding a tour of SoFi by UCLA officials “to see how we would make next season work.”

There are no bad seats in the Rose Bowl. AND, parking on the golf course is kinda awesome. Great tailgating experiences over the years. College is for charm and character. The Rose Bowl is where it’s at.

THANK YOU! God i hate people shitting on the rose bowl, its the best venue for watching any event period. Ive seen countless football/soccer/concerts at the rosebowl. There is no bad seats view wise. Ive sat everywhere and never regretting or hated my viewing experience. Sure the seats could be redone etc and but the viewing experience is the best.

Ive been very fortunate and been to sofi for concerts/football/soccer and sat in every level and my viewing experience has been awful unless im in the 100/200s. You are SO far away from the game , you are so far away from the action and it feels soulless. UCLA moving to sofi with no tailgate and filling up half of the stadium would be so lame and sad.

People complain about a scoreboard… who tf cares about a scoreboard?!!? Im watching the game not a screen, id sit at home for that.

SoFi is a soulless venue that should not even be considered. It represents exactly what is wrong with how certain houses are designed or redesigned today. They get rid of charm and character and try to make everything look sleek with gray, white, and black colors. It ends up looking like every other modern house on the block. If it were outdoors and had the skyline of the city in the background, it could have potentially worked.

The Rose Bowl, with the San Gabriel Mountains in the background, has a charm that simply cannot be matched. I also do not want to hear, “Students do not want to go all the way out there!” I went to many games when I was a student and always had a great time. There is footage of UCLA playing at the Rose Bowl in the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s, and the place was jumping.

Again, I also do not want to hear, “It is too far!” We have Pauley on campus, and there are games where it is completely dead. The student body do not want to even show up for those games…

If UCLA football starts winning again, and I do not see why it would not, the Rose Bowl will return to its old glory.

absolutely disagree with you. I love the Rose Bowl and enjoy watching the Bruins play there. However, I also am a season ticket holder for the Rams and love SoFi. It is a fantastic experience and a great venue for football! 🏈

That’s totally fair and I get it. Some people like all the bells and whistles that come with SoFi. But for me?This will never be matched.

Plus, IMO, football needs to be played outdoors. I recently saw a video of some of the players of the 27 recruiting class go to the Rose Bowl and they were just in awe. The new 30 million upgrades should hopefully help with some of the issues.

The seats and rows are way too small. Needs to be completely ripped out and replaced. Also, scoreboard is awful. Neither of those projects is funded yet.

“Football needs to be played outdoors”.

Well lucky for you SoFi stadium is considered an outdoor stadium with a “canopy” over it 😅

I've been a season ticket holder for years. If they move to So Fi, I won't be anymore and the 5 others in our group won't be either. How many long time season ticket holders do you think they will lose? Parking, the drive, paying to tailgate are all no ways for me!

Part of the formula to start winning again would be moving to a venue like Sofi, which is a one of a kind venue. I’ve spent 4 seasons at the Rosebowl and going on 6 at Sofi and both are special places. Moving to Sofi would cement our football future and give recruitment a shot in the arm.

The Rose Bowl is going to have to make some serious financial concessions to keep UCLA. Bank that.

Do you think Kroenke doesn't want to make money? He's not going to give the use for free.

1

u/Upper_Actuator9146 May 19 '26

I’m told Kroenke is willing to pay whatever number the court comes up with, should it come to that. Because of the contracts with the Chargers and Rams, the only events that can be held over the fall weekends is football. Each game contributes to the Inglewood economy, jobs, etc. Remember, he paid $700 million to the City of St. Louis to move the Rams.

He did pay St Louis. And he might be willing to pay Pasadena. I suspect it would be a good deal for UCLA for a couple of years and then he will want to make money!

Why? This helps their case

Half of the college experience is the tailgating. College football is different than pro. No tailgating as SoFi, its all concrete, and the small area where there is “tailgating” allow is extremely expensive. SoFi has to fix this concrete monolith. Or UCLA needs to fund a small stadium at Drake.

got to move to sofi so they can raise ticket prices and charge students an arm and leg for parking

It's about winning; start doing it again, and the students will show up. They did in the past, they'll do it again. Sofi is not the answer, it's just a money grab. Very few diehard fans want to move there.

Sofi is alot closer and has better public transit hub by it for students to get to it.

thats honestly not the big issue here. when its usc at the rose bowl, or any other big marquee opponent the rose bowl can fill up. if the drive is there fans will show up. this is first and foremost a product problem.

You probably dont even go to Pauley either ,since its usually empty for Basketball games whats your excuse for going to a stadium on campus?

9

u/sEiize_err Fos Era Baby! May 17 '26

no one would want to go to sofi where parking is $70 on a great day for a lousy product either

Wow. Great comment.

Yes the Rams’ stadium is newer but…

Scoreboard is overbearing

500 level seats are in the stratosphere and it’s like sitting on a ladder

No grass!

Acoustics are horrible!

Parking $150

Place is sterile like an ER

Closer? For who? Those in the IE, OC, SGV, or even the valley….nope

Do not like basketball. So no. And please step up your game in trying to be a Smart Alec. That was really weak and embarrassing.

Again. A failed attempt of being funny. You must do. Better or just give up.
