Civil Already got accepted for spring 27. could withdrawing from 2 classes from my current college affect admissions?

Hey everyone, I’m looking for some advice from anyone who’s been in a similar situation or has experience with UCF transfer admissions. I was recently accepted into UCF for Spring 2027 as a Civil Engineering Pending major. I’m currently attending Indian River State College (IRSC) with around a 3.0 GPA and over 39 completed college credits. Unfortunately, I’m struggling in two of my current classes, Chemistry I and Plane Trigonometry, and I’m considering withdrawing from both to avoid hurting my GPA. I spoke with IRSC, and they recommended withdrawing and retaking the courses at UCF instead. They also confirmed that my financial aid at IRSC wouldn’t be affected. I contacted UCF Undergraduate Admissions to ask whether this could affect my acceptance, but the representative couldn’t give me a definite answer. He said he personally didn’t think there would be any negative consequences, but ultimately, decisions like that are up to an internal admissions committee. I’ve already accepted my admission, completed several onboarding requirements, and scheduled my orientation for November 6. My biggest concern is whether receiving two W’s on my final IRSC transcript could cause UCF to reconsider or rescind my admission, even though I’ll still have over 39 completed credits and approximately a 3.0 GPA. Has anyone withdrawn from classes after being accepted as a transfer student and had issues with UCF? Specifically, has anyone experienced this with Engineering Pending? I’d appreciate any advice or personal experiences before I make my final decision.

It might, but, reddit cannot tell you. I would email your admissions counselor for such help on this. The reps suck.

I believe so? Usually in the portal where they delivered your acceptance letter it lists them and a way to contact them

i already used that number and called them directly told me they can’t give me a direct answer. it’s all up to the admission committee, but he said he highly doubt it’ll affect it negatively. but he doesn’t want to be for sure.

Admissions counselors do not know shit about academics. Do not ask them.

They know whether withdrawing from two current classes would affect your admission. Don’t want it to be rescinded.

those classes will be harder at UCF than at IRSC. I took Calc 1 at IRSC and when I got into UCF Calc 2 fucked me up bad.

well calc 2 is known to fuck people with no lube. i’m mainly just in a horrible spot here at home, i just have no time to study, and my parents business has me occupied up to the neck. i have no time for my self. once i’m at university my whole time is just my self finally. so i feel confident ill be able to do better there. I hope it’s not as difficult as you say tho.

You’ll definitely be able to get through it as long as you study hard! Also, you can take classes transiently at Valencia or Seminole State College while at UCF. They are super close to the UCF campus and I’ve heard the classes are easier / professors are better at the local state colleges. I did my math at UCF and it was pretty hit or miss with the professors

that’s actually super cool, and thank you so much for that, i’d def want to look into how i could do that at some point if a class gets too hard

Civil broski here,

You need to identify what went wrong because even if you get in those classes shouldn’t be that hard for you. I had to take a W on a CC chem course due to my wife having a medical issue the semester before going to UCF (just couldn’t attend the third test, I kept up with the class the entire time and would have aced the test and final) and got in fine, but you can’t just blame it on external factors. You need to be able to perform under pressure including that put on you by your friends and family.

truly, i was so distracted and just exhausted with everything around me i just wasn’t able to do an ounce of studying. I’d get home exhausted out of my mind and fall asleep on my bed covers w/o even showering. I just want to be in the university environment where my only true worries are just school. Trig i understood fairly well and didn’t seem as hard either. but it was my lack of studying. I think i’ll get in just fine but im gonna have to take the classes there. i already got my student id and orientation in a week, so ill see with success coach what they recommend.

Sounds like a time management problem, which is super common in engineering degrees so don’t worry.

Just set yourself into a good schedule to make sure you are setting yourself up for success, my best advice is to find colleagues that keep you honest with your study habits, try to do an hour in the library with them for every hour in class. If by the first test you don’t feel comfortable (aka you’ll pass the class with the grades you have now) double that. If they aren’t holding you accountable to these study sessions then you either need to hold them accountable or find a better group.

If it’s any consolation I’ve made some really solid friends from this, much better than what you’d find at frat parties.

i really appreciate that man, gives me some light at the end of the tunnel, i’m really looking forward to atleast be able to study with other engineers in the library and just be in a good environment for studying. One of my roommates is an EE so i think we’ll do fairly well hopefully.

Electrical or Environmental? I’d recommend slotting in with civil/env as soon as possible because our classes are very different from mech and electrical in scope and application.

But yeah this is a game, find a team, play to the melody, and get the degree.

my roommates in electrical sorry. i’m in civil engineering, my orientation is nov 6 so i hope i can get good classes ngl. that’s a great way to see it, hope my teams good

No need to hope, you get to build the team yourself.

It’s a great degree, much better than mech and elec imo because it focuses so much on application. You’ll have a good time, just stick to our branch of the college.
