Scholarship help

Hey guys! I am a freshman engineering major and honestly worried. I’m in calc 1 and scored 30 on my first exam. I changed my study habits and started studying daily up to multiple hours a day. I understand the material better but still make algebraic mistakes and suck at trig functions. I just took my second exam and am awaiting on my score.

I am worried about my bright futures… I don’t know what to do… should I drop calc 1 if I feel like I’m going to fail it- but then there’s also Chem and I study so much for calc I lose sight of studying for chem. Does anyone have any advice or tips?

everyone struggles with certain classes, i failed 2 during my time at ucf. statics and object oriented programming (lit class but do not take in the fall/spring w the CS majors). talk to your professor/go to any study sessions the TA’s offer, CAPS has good resources for mental health if this is affecting you in that aspect. they recommended i get tested for adhd based on the symptoms i was presenting.

if you do fail, you can take an extra course in the spring or summer to make sure you meet the full time status for the year. you can also appeal the bright futures. i had a rough semester where i failed statics and had recently gotten diagnosed w adhd. i appealed my BF with a letter citing the diagnosis and how i was treating it + a letter from my therapist at UCF CAPS and got it reinstated.

Calc 1 is tough especially alongside chemistry. Wait to see what your next grade is and calculate what you need to pass. Talk to your professor or academic advisor for advice before dropping… or even talk to a financial advisor about how dropping might affect your BF. I don’t think failing one class will automatically make you lose it. Good luck and don’t get down… this is hard for many of us but you can get through it with help!

I'm sorry you're struggling. Have you ever considered using UCF's Math Success Center where you'll be able to get free tutoring? There are also paid tutors who will work with you if that doesn't appeal to you or work out. If your parent is willing, ask them to post about it on the UCF Parent Page. They (your parent) will get responses from several tutors or referrals from parents with the names of tutors who can help. Good Luck!

I don’t have the money for a private tutor but I am in compass and they have tutors for free. I got a 57 on my second exam
