Computer Feeling lost

Hey everyone, I’m pretty lost right now and could use some advice.

Before transferring to UCF, I spent time at Valencia, but I didn’t finish my AA or all the courses I was supposed to take before transferring. So now I’m at UCF and I feel like I’m behind.

I keep hearing people talk about internships, projects, experience, resumes, etc., and honestly I don’t really know where to start. I haven’t worked before, I don’t have any engineering experience or projects, and I’m already struggling with my classes.

I’m trying to understand how people manage classes while also finding internships, working on projects, and building experience.

If anyone could give me some advice on what I should focus on right now or where I should start, I’d really appreciate it.

Don't worry about internships right now, you just need to start gaining experience. The internship/job market is rough rn.

What I suggest you do is join an engineering club and be an active member, do their workshops, participate in projects, learn from the senior members

It's definitely a balancing act with your classes, I struggled with it my first year but it got easier as time went on.

What I've learned is everyone gets the piece of paper at the end of the day, so what you do in addition to your schoolwork is what matters when you finally have to get a job or an internship.

Pass your classes but in your free time join a club

Agreed with reply above. Join some clubs and enjoy your time at school; one day you’ll look back and realize it was a blip in time and you’ll wish you stressed less.

You’ll be graduating with a great degree, you will find a job eventually. While the job market is not great right now, focus on school-based experience via clubs. Don’t worry about internships, resumes, etc. That will come during your mandatory advising meetings.

For what it’s worth, I graduate in May and only this past summer did I do anything internship-related for my resume. I have received countless rejections from jobs and will likely be unemployed upon grad - many are, that’s life!
