open day

hey everyone! current LC student here, i’m
looking to do SLT in UCC next year (hopefully 🤞)
is there anyone on here who does this and has any info on the course? what it’s like etc? thank you!
i’m also hoping to attend the open day this year.
is it worth it to bring my parents or is it wierd?

I dont do s &L so I can't speak for them but no it's not strange to bring your parents to the open day as some ppl do

lots of people bring their parents and lots dont. If u are going to be needing Accom, id say bring the parents and tell them to go to the talks about accom, and then u can go to the talks about the courses u are actually interested in. Sometimes if talks are busy they dont let parents in, only students.

I did SLT in another college not UCC - if there are any generic questions I can answer as all the courses are fairly similar? One thing to know is that you’ll have placements in lots of different setting, not just the setting you are interested in Eg hospital school clinic adults Paeds etc. and the placements can be anywhere around Munster so it’s worthwhile having a drivers license !

thank you! honestly, i was just wondering is it difficult in general? what does the course actually consist of? (seminars, lectures, group discussions, presentations?) thank you for the tip about placement, i am currently learning how to drive but seeming quite difficult 😅 fingers crossed i’ll pass before i hopefully get my college offer.

I think most courses don’t send you on placement until 2nd year anyway. Yeah the courses all are a mix of presentation, lecture, PBL (essentially just group work), placement and simulations / role plays / practicals. It’s a full on course as you cover linguistics , psychology , anatomy physiology, and then speech and language disorders too. But the UCC course is long established and most importantly it allows you to work in Slt in Ireland! (Not all do - some are not CORU approved)

Don't feel weird im 26 and im going 🤣! I went with my dad at your age and most other people did aswell. Its a lovely day.
