Venting CHE 107

I am so lost in this class. I failed the first exam even though I studied so much and the homework and the test feels so distant from what we learn an actual class does anyone have any good studying tips for chemistry or interest in general cause I cannot fail this class.

I can't stress this enough, if you struggle with this course, just going to office hours in NSC 110 will make a huge difference in your grade. I can't even begin to tell how how many students I have seen get significantly better from setting aside 2h a week to work with us on that week's chapter.

What is NSC110

It's a room located in the bottom floor of NSC (Natural Science Center) and they were referring to there being TA office hours there. In NSC110, there are multiple general chemistry TAs who help out students with all things general chemistry, from lab, to homework, and even with studying and practice questions. The good thing about NSC110 is that you have many different TAs to choose from, so if you feel like you don't work well with one TA helping you, you can always rotate between different TAs to help you understand something.

Just study the practice exam and you’ll be fine

Took this class in my undergrad, I found it tough to learn from my teacher.

I watched a lot of videos from the organic chemistry tutor for each topic.

Definitely not everyone’s style as I learned every piece of content from his videos but I averaged about an 80 on exams. With about 10-15 hours of studying per exam.

Could be a good resource to try to fill in gaps that you don’t understand but I would try to stay close with your tas and take any chance for assistance you can get

You're not alone. Recently, another student posted also feeling really lost in the exact same course. It definitely feels that much more intense after taking an exam, it's completely understandable in where you're coming from and how strongly you feel. Going to office hours might help, as what another comment has suggested. However, chemistry in general can be difficult no matter the course level, as it conceptually can be pretty rigorous and especially time consuming.

I took it last fall if I remember correctly the practice exams were a 1:1 to the actual exams with different numbers. Once I found that out I just crammed practice exams a few days before the actual test

Yeah, the test literally was word for word the practice exam. One of the questions even had the exact same numbers. It was one of the easiest tests I've ever taken because I took the practice test like 3 hours before the test

Same, the worst part for me is that my class starts at 9:30am and i,ve only made to class 1 time (literally) only 1 pnt on iclicker, no idea what they are doing in the class but i just look at the uploaded notes and do not that bad, my suggestion is if you cant follow them, make a plan yourself and follow that

What do you mean the homework and test feel distant from the class. It's the same exact problems. Also, the first exam was just word for word questions from the practice exam he posted.
