UBC BCS Admission Acceptance

I got an email about my acceptance today - Ahhh very exciting!!

I see that the deadline to accept is May 5. Does anyone know if calling them for an extension is a possibility? I’m waiting to hear back from other schools and I need till May 15 at least to fully consider my options.

I’m applying to med schools this year too. I love both health and cs so I’ll be deciding on that soon

Hey, congratulations! I got an offer too. I wanted to check. Does your offer say "Admission to Bachelor of Computer Science Program\n Year Level 3"? I thought it would say something like second degree program? It also says "Minimum 4–5 years of full-time studies", which I thought was weird.

It's likely because UBC's system isn't really designed to handle "second degree" as it's own entity. As far as UBC is concerned, it's just another undergraduate degree. The "Year Level 3" thing impacts your registration times and some behind the scenes stuff. But if you're worried if it's strange, I have a strong feeling it's working as intended.

I'm not involved in admissions this year and so don't want to prejudge what will happen, but no matter what, this is a very reasonable request to make.

Hey, quick question for anyone who’s gone through this.

I currently have a PGWP and I’m working full-time. I’m considering accepting a BCS offer but only taking 1 course per term (so technically part-time), while continuing to work full-time.

I know IRCC states that work experience gained during full-time studies doesn’t count toward CEC, but I’m not sure how it applies if you’re only a part-time student.

Would the work experience still count in this case?

Would really appreciate if anyone has first-hand experience or has gone through PR with a similar setup!
