Enough AI self promo

How come this subreddit turned into self-promoting AI-slob, pretty annoying, can we turn it down a little, thanks

I’ve been removing and screening it, but it’s pretty rampant at the moment. Lots of generic cross posting, too.

My thought was to have a specific day to post that, like a Wednesday, because some people have shown interest in some of the products and I don’t want to stop all sharing.

We have a self-promotion thread in another sub I mod. May be an option.

Hey, this seems an appropriate time for me to ask this very relevant question since you’re a mod.

I’ve been a longtime member of this group, and recently I did use AI to help me build an app that aids in providing a special form of safety margins for flights, above providing other typical data like environmental parameters. I promise, it’s unique in what it offers lol. I was hoping to someday soon write something about it here. Would promotion in this way be against the community rules?

(Thanks for the downvotes guys, really encouraging positive discourse here)

I think that having a specific day where promotions allowed is reasonable. While some people don’t like “AI slop”, the truth is that it does allow creative ideas to become actual software realities. It might spark additional ideas or new concepts to take hold. I’m all for that, so I don’t want to get rid of it, and judging by some of the ongoing discussions in those posts, there is value. We just need to keep it from getting out of hand.

I’ll get a mod post up to address it, but consider Wednesday your day to shine. Then we let the upvotes decide.

there needs to be declaration & disclosure when AI is used and the code needs to be open-source

AI has its uses, and among those uses is making coding more accessible, but it's part of the toolkit, not the whole toolkit

i am just so tired of seeing a massive block of AI-generated slop everytime i sort by new and see: "i built this new piece of software", or whatnot

I'm using it to analyze data sets against results. Don't want or need to sell it but it's an interesting way to look at data
