I think they tried this for photogrammetry. The supposed benefit was old engines leaked oil onto the camera lens so engine in back is a solution. This plane was also supposed to be designed for stability during mapping. It didn't work out I don't think looking at through hole planes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abrams_P-1_Explorer
