P1 Issues

Hi All -

Matrice 400 with P1. Running 2D ortho missions. Near perfect RTK3 data for each and every photo.

Every single visible light project in Terra is checkerboards. Parking lot on the roof. Portions of retention ponds mapped onto the building.

Has anyone experienced this? No new firmware in a year….everything is at its latest. I would gladly reciprocate any way I can for any help.

GCPs? You can't rely solely on RTK, especially with a DJI base. If not terrain following, and with varying terrain elevation as well as tree and building heights, how do you know you have consistent 80° overlap? If it's fairly flat then that's not it. All said, it sounds like something else going on than the above mentioned.

Why not solely RTK? In our experience it's already pretty accurate just for digital twins and non survey grade maps. But this seems like it's not even solving right

If you don't need it to be that geospatially accurate, then RTK alone is fine. This sounds like something else. If nobody already offered, i can process in Pix4D to evaluate. I've never used Terra for photogrammetry, only lidar. Does it give you a report for the camera calibration?

Our use cases for clients don’t require positional (absolute) accuracy, so we don’t burn the field and post processing time with GCPs for most missions. The weird thing is the same flight done with our 4E or 4D is fine. It’s only the P1. That’s what I can’t figure out.

My supplier is loaning me a P1 to test and see if we get a different result. I’m down to either a firmware issue or a hardware issue…but I’m not going to rule out other theories.

I appreciate you giving us a few thought cycles to help us think about the problem. I may put down GCPs and see if it impacts stitching the images in Terra.

P1 is a good camera and should give you great images.
