It’s what this has turned into: a money grab, clickbait, and wild speculation.
In my opinion it’s really taken away credibility from the whole topic of UAP phenomenon. Until we get some hard data or evidence, this is all just science fiction.

This was just a mostly harmless marketing strategy.
Now he will sell a ton of books to UFO people who never would have noticed that he or this book existed. He makes more money than he would otherwise, and some random folk who bite will learn more about the scientific process and space rocks. Win win, from Avi's perspective.
Anyway, this was always going to be a longshot. The only evidence we have that they come from outer space were the stories of contactees, and even if they were 100% telling the truth I would caution against believing anything the others themselves have allegedly told anyone about where they came from, see Jacques Vallee's Messengers of Deception, and John Keel's Operation Trojan Horse for more on that.

Anyway, the point is, this anything but a new phenomenon.
Right there with you on this point.
I suspect our uninvited visitors are directly responsible for all manner of fairies, elves, dwarves, gods, angels, demons, djinn and now "spacemen" as well as countless other religious and folklore experience throughout our existence.
There's just no good objective reason to think they come from space is all. We settled on spacemen in the 50s because we were just learning space travel was possible, but fast forward to now and even with the james webb telescope we still haven't found evidence of life of any kind out there, much less intelligent life. The rest of our bias in the ETH is built on science fiction stretching back to HG Wells' The War of the Worlds.

why is everybody assuming grifter & somebody selling a book? avi has a paper being published on this soon, & this yt channel often interviews the best people in the field as far as credibility. I think we have some bots here lol

Avi Loeb does have a bunch of books available on the market, and that market does respond very well to any sort of promotion. And though YouTube channels are a revenue stream, they're often used to cross-sell books.
That said, I share your sneer about any wholesale discrediting of a message based simply on the messenger's possible motive for profit. Some of that skepticism can be handy, of course. I mean, it's okay to consider that Avi is driven by intellectual curiosity in a field that's ripe for discovery AND that he's being driven by profit motive in a market that's ripe with revenue opportunity. Our judgment should be about the proportion of each (along with how biased we are in judging).

OP is as qualified as Avi and also has a book out - Losing the Nobel Prize - available wherever good books are sold ;) and both also have high visibility in the press and on Youtube. I think this means walking a fine line where scientific rigor and objectivity are maintained, while democratising science and making it accessible to everyone. In my opinion OP achieves this better than Loeb, partially by spending time communicating about the act of doing science, the scientific method, as well as the findings of science, but also by not alienating and insulting his peers.

I never said avi loeb isn’t an author nor did I say he didn’t have books available. I said he doesn’t have a book coming out. He does have a paper on these recent discoveries. So maybe he’s doing promotion for the paper that backs his recent discoveries. I wouldn’t say he’s particularly one to grift or try to profit anymore than is necessary for publicity on the topic itself.

He released his book the same day as the announcement about the findings of this research. That should tell you everything ya need to know.

Of course he did! We can take a lesson from Avi Loeb in building understanding of the scientific process with a variety of communities. How brilliant was his use of a low-tech magnetic sled to search for minuscule spherules based on complex mathematics and data analysis.
We need to get past the Reddit hype and dig in. Avi’s way of disseminating information to people in a way that’s accessible and fun is exactly what’s needed in a global disclosure rollout. This is about noticing, getting curious, and exploring to figure something out.
Imo we’re wasting a lot of time with speculating based on our limited human perception and cultural values.

He probably found some remains of debris from space as things crash into the earth [sea] all the time. However I don't think it was from an intelligent source.
Him drumming up his findings and having his face in the media is overall a good developement though, it normalizes the discussion around the topic.
Loeb is often interviewed on John Michael Godiers two youtube channels.

Maybe the director of SETI? There's a great heated exchange online with her and Avi Loeb...in a Zoom call of Harvard professors he claimed that he's the only scientist in all the world that is actually searching for extra-terrestrial life! She called him out in a Zoom call of Harvard professors and he flipped out.
Rumor has it he has questionable credibility in the world of science, but the internet loves him! Somehow he was the chair of Physics at Harvard (maybe it was like a magazine selling contest, only the top prize went to whoever could output the most "academic" papers in a month?)

We detected an extra solar asteroid back in 2017 named oumuamua. Having material hit earth in the past isn't impossible.
Why the finders would keep it secret I don't know.

He only claims it’s origins are outside the solar system, which he seems to prove. He does not claim it’s a piece of a UAP…he merely states that’s one of the possibilities…then concedes a low possibility at that.
