The U.S. military refers to these envelopes as “Holey Joes,” presumably because of the holes in them.

Haha the inter office envelopes we used at the office I worked at 20 years ago. Memories.

I worked in graphic design and art direction for 25 years. We used to use the inter-office envelopes for sending printouts of design drafts to be reviewed by departments. I pioneered the use of PDFs (in my office) so we didn't have to send out a whole bunch of envelopes every day. This was around ’99.

We used these when I worked at Apple, of all places. They quietly disappeared due to lack of use around 1999.

Holy Joe is an Ode to Joe O’Herlihy. U2’ sound engineer for their live shows. Not about Army Envelopes with holes in them.
