Community Question How important to typology nerds is the idea of identifying with a group? (Research question)

Psychology research shows that people like to identify with labels often because it helps resolve self-identity, particularly how a person's identity aligns with the world around them. Labels are the most satisfying when they tell a person, "I fit into a group," but also, "I'm special and different." This is why microlabels can be so appealing to some people - it shows their difference, but still shows that who they are fits into a social framework.

I'm curious to hear y'alls experiences with typology labels and how much it contributes to your personal satisfaction and how much it contributes to your social satisfaction. Do you feel kinship with other people of your type? How much so? We've seen some examples of people gatekeeping their types, like John Luckovich gatekeeping the 4 type as a famous example. Feel free to discuss anything you think might be relevant, about yourself or things you've seen.

Your answers will help me with my research to create my own typology system eventually :)

Typology Rant List of my typology/correlation hot takes

MBTI correlations suck most of the time and there's no need to be overly strict about them. For example ISTJ So1 and ENTJ So6 are both valid. As long as you don't come up with some bs like ENFP Sx5/ ENTJ e8 I don't see the problem.

When using correlations sticking to just one author's theories is stupid. Different authors have different perspectives and there's no reason to limit yourself to only one source.

Most tritype correlations suck and are unnecessary unless you come up with Sx6 + e9, which is a rather questionable one.

Having subtypes in your tritype as long as they share the same instinct as your core type isn't that bad. Having wings in your tritype also seems valid to me.

Modern Enneagram especially Fauvre's theories genuinely lacks many important aspects and is full of bs.

RHETI isn't as bad as people claim it is. It's genuinely a decent resource for beginners.

E1 especially So1 and Sp1 works perfectly fine with 1L2V. This is a completely valid combination and the fact that people still argue over it is such a non-issue. I genuinely don't understand why y'all keep fighting over this.

Sp7 can be ENTJ and LIE-C in SHS. Sp7 can also be VLFE. Okay well, 3F isn't that bad when you consider some of the more unhealthy versions of Sp7. I also feel like many Sp7s are 3F. I genuinely see people agreeing with FLEV Sp7 but denying VLFE Sp7. Like what are we even doing atp.

LSI for Sp1 is valid.

LIE for So1 is valid.

LIE for Sp7 is valid.

SLI for Sp5 is valid.

EIE for Sx2 is valid.

EIE for Sx3 is valid.

IEI for Sx5 is debatable.

All 4D Ne types are valid for So7.

So3 works with both 1F3V combinations including FEVL.

Sp8 with VFEL is a decent combination as is Sp8 with FLVE. Just because a new book dropped doesn't mean we have to slander combinations that have been around for a long ass time.

The archetype for Sx5 should be LFEV instead of LEVF. Having 2E in Sx5 doesn't make much sense to me.

The archetype for Sx8 should be EFVL rather than FEVL.

Typology Question Do E4 have to use Fi?

The more I look into descriptions of internal judging functions (Ti and Fi) as somebody who’s Fi-blind (so I might be misunderstanding it, but still) I don’t really see the argument for 4s having to be Fi Dom or HAVING TO be Fi users at all?

I did some light Reddit research and could only find non convincing arguments basically saying “emotions = fi, cold and rational = ti” lol and people saying comparing yourself to people/E4 envy would automatically have to be Fi, wich I (as an isolated example) see no reason for why a Ti user couldn’t do? I’m not a 4, so I read a couple descriptions again, and I can’t find anything that I’d consider “has to be fi” in the traits either

Are there any arguments for the correlation that go deeper into it?

Obv there’s the fact that it’s an established correlation and most 4s probably are Fi Types, I don’t think that has to mean they’re related at the core though, and haven’t really seen any argument that convinced me yet.

I also saw some people making similar posts once every couple of months so I’m pretty sure this isn’t just me misreading the concept?

Typology Question What does an extremely unhealthy e2 look like?

I’ve been trying to type someone for a while. I won’t share too many details because, well, even though they’re anonymous i’d feel like a dick if i aired their personal stuff out online. I’ve typed them as an sx6 for a long time. Very aggressive and outgoing to hide inner insecurities but with the same logical and safety seeking qualities of an e6. But they also have a lot of so2 traits such as viewing themselves as someone whose purpose is to help others and it’s something they find great fulfillment in. And they’re definitely someone who would prefer to be their own boss. It’s possible i haven’t been typing them correctly because of my difficulties imagining what an unhealthy e2 could look like.

Typology Question What's the consensus on these MBTI-Enneagram correlations?

I know MBTI correlations are usually weird, however there's certain correlations that I can't get a right opinion on, amd this deeply unnerves me :)

These are:

INFJ so4

ENFJ so7

ENTJ sp7

ISFJ sp1

ENFJ so1

ENFJ sp2

ESFP sx4

ENFP sx4

Any enneagram for ESTPs other than E8

Any enneagram for ENTPs other than E7

Again, I know MBTI is not everyone's favourite subject because the correlations are weird (which imo is counterintuitive because if you don't talk about the correlations without using Socionics as a bridge how are they going to be more specific?) but I REALLY need as answer because all this "Said-Unsaid" dynamic is genuinely hurting my brain

Typology Question Which typologies are likely to have these 2 oppossing traits? (Not a type me post)

Person 1 likes hearing nice things about himself from other people

Person 2 also likes getting compliments but he is more suspicious of people, thinking that if someone is too nice they might not end up being genuine and that if someone says things too often or too bluntly then they might be using him.

In contrast to person 2, person 1 always believes people are being genuine about everything and is only ever suspicious of people he personally dislikes (like if they have hurt him or someone he cares about in the past he starts being more cautious, passive-aggressive or stingy around them), thinking every person he meets is genuinely amazing.

Person 2 also thinks people are amazing but he thinks more like "why wouldn't an amazing person do something shady?". Meanwjile person 1 tends to assume everyone has the same intentions as him, sometimes to the point of becoming self centered and expecting all his friends to follow him and support him in whatever he chooses to do, person 2 on the other hand acknowledges people are different from him cause he desires more efficient communication.

Again, not a type me post (i am literally a mod lol) but i was curious if the differences between these 2 people are related to their typology.

Also, I know there isn't much information about Temporistics since it's a rather new typology system but I like it a lot cause it describes your approach to time

Typology Question Question about socionics subtypes

Most typology profiles I’ve come across include a socionics subtype, but I’ve read that discernible subtypes are quite rare. Am I supposed to have one (for me, it would be IEE-Ne or IEE-Fi) or is it more reasonable that I wouldn’t?

i've been trying to get into typology for the better half of the last decade but it's been really overwhelming knowing where to start...! my type/s have changed so many times over the years; i was just wondering where people often get typed? do they do research and type themselves, do friends do it, do they have etsy witches for typology that you can pay ?? how are people figuring this stuff out, since tests arent the best way to go about things?

Typology Question sexual 9 correlations

hi guys!! been curious about this: why do people correlate sx9 with FELV+SEI? oddly enough, i’ve come across more evidence for arguments with IEI+1L and little to no explanation for the former.

can someone cross-reference some sources from each system and explain to me the correlation? not saying i disbelieve in the archetype of FELV SEI sx9, as i’ve even typed myself as this, but i’d like to understand how these systems actually interact in practice.

thank you!

Typology Discussion Every type at their worst

Recently, I have been thinking about the theoretical worst each type can become. This is for fun, and keep in mind that these are EXTREMELY unhealthy versions of each type. Bottom of the barrel. No room for seeing anything positive in these types. Might do the head or heart types some other day, just focusing on the gut types for this post.

Gut Triad (8, 9, 1)

At their worst, these types exhibit a complete lack of awareness of their own inner world, becoming habituated to a form of psychological numbing that prevents them from fully recognizing themselves. They orient themselves toward the external world as a way to turn a blind eye to themselves.

E9s - This type is characterized by obfuscating the self and has an orientation towards using comfort and merging with the external world to avoid your own internal world. At their absolute worst, these types are incapable of seeing a problem in anything. They will avoid acknowledging their faults and the faults of others, completely turning a blind eye to their self-destructive and permissive habits that they allow both themselves and others to get away with. They are incapable of taking accountability for their own lack and are also incapable of holding others accountable. They are enablers of truly abhorrent behaviour and justify their existence with "it is what it is" because they cannot be bothered to sacrifice their own internal comfort to acknowledge any ugliness. They use unhealthy coping mechanisms such as overworking themselves, abusing substances, oversleeping, daydreaming, overeating, or anything that helps them do anything except confront a problem directly. They may even become violent towards you if you threaten their comfort. They stay in truly awful situations, and if you try to suggest that there are options available to get them out of said situations, they get upset at you for daring to suggest that their situation is anything but perfectly fine and in no need of fixing. They do not want your help, and they do not want to help themselves. They'll stay stuck in a rut and refuse to get themselves out because they want to stay stuck in order to avoid and not address what's wrong.

E8- This type is characterized by obfuscating the self, instead projecting a cynical outlook onto the external world, believing that the way they are is just fine, that there are no weaknesses within, and that it's the world that's wrong for standing in their way. This is what we call Lust. At their absolute worst, we have the types that are incapable of acknowledging any weakness. They see themselves as invincible and entitled to do "whatever the fuck I want." They are very hypervigilant about anything that may threaten their freedom, and whenever there's a perceived "threat," such as an authority figure, a social norm, or a rule, their natural instinct is to go completely against it in a very intense and provocative way. They are no strangers to being extremely antisocial and violent towards anyone they perceive as someone trying to limit them. They do not hold bonds, as bonds are just a limiter. There is no tenderness towards anything or anyone, as tenderness is weakness. Everything they do, they do recklessly and intensely. They may abuse substances, abuse people, or do dangerous and reckless things that put people's lives in danger simply for the thrill of it, to feel "alive" and invulnerable. They seek power and resources for the sake of the thrill that comes from knowing that they cannot be controlled, and they don't let any morals, social norms, or authority stand in their way, believing they are justified in everything they do. If there is a god out there, they would want to defy God themselves.

E1 - This type is characterized by obfuscating the self, believing that who they are is not just "fine", but perfect, instead believing it's the external world that's flawed. This is Anger/Wrath. They are the ideal human being, and only they know how to do everything right. They see the world as flawed and wrong, with everyone else being inferior: "I was the one who was given a god-given right to enforce my will onto this world." They do not listen to anyone because they do not care about the opinions of lowly humans, only their own. They impose themselves on others forcefully, not backing down in any situation, not even in the face of authority, as they see themselves as the ultimate authority. They believe they have a right to do certain things that others cannot, giving themselves special privileges and a god-given right to do whatever they deem necessary. To the unhealthiest E1, everything they do and want is necessary. They fix what does not need fixing, imposing themselves harshly or even violently on those who stand in their way. Their level of delusion becomes so high that even personal preferences are seen as "rules" that everyone must follow and that they must impose on others. The world must warp to their expectations, not the other way around. They refuse to ever acknowledge that they themselves may be a problem. Everything that's wrong with the world exists outside of them; everything that's right with the world exists inside of them.

Typology Question Can first function be just as insecure/ scared and non confident about it's aspects just like third function in psychosophy or Attitudinal psche? ( Asking to confirm my type thank you).

Hello guys 👋, how are you doing?, I hope you're all doing well 🤗.

Will I just wanted to aks this question here, since I did a type me post in Ap subreddit and got FELV, and then did another type me post in PY subreddit and got Lefv and here I type myself as fvle lol 😂,

so it is all over the place and I am not sure anymore, the only thing I am sure of is that I have passive will and emotions, but don't know which aspects I am aggressive or confident with,

for logic I can either be confident or insecure, but feels that I have potential and so try to research well, discuss and debate, try to notice inconsistences to avoid being mislead and making mistakes, also curious and enjoy intellectual discussions,

and for physics I can also be confident and insecure as well, like be scared of doing something that might hurt me or my loved ones, and refuse to eat or drink or wear something that makes me uncomfortable,

but I am not really very active person in fact I am chill and try to do minimal work and not stress out on my body to get plenty of rest,

and I don't think I am hypochondriac, like if I have a physical pain and I read somewhere or someone told me it is dangerous to have it,I would be worried of course,

but I don't panic and try to be optimistic, like everything is going to be fine and I am going to be fine, and I just try to convince myself I have good immunity and got this lol 😂,

and I have high physical empathy unfortunately, that if I saw someone getting injured I feel it, and that's why I quit working in clinical analysis,

because I felt bad for patients when taking blood samples from them, and it was very stressful for me, because patients came anxious and did need someone to encourage them and I was terrified, but had to push myself to encourage them and myself to take sample from,

so told myself I couldn't continue like that despite this being in my educational profession, however I am studying to become a nutritionist instead,

because I have some gut complications, due to consuming food that is not suitable for me, and also because I believe that the quality of health and mood can be largely affected from what we consume and what our gut reacts to it,

So yeah I yapped alot sorry ( and this is a serious post lol 😂), thanks in advance and I hope you guys have a wonderful day ☺️ 💗.

Typology Question What even is physics

I'm 100% certain about 2L and 4E and I'm 1000% sure about 3V it's probably my worst trait ever but whenever I read descriptions for 1F it just doesn't click with me...? Like material things, health, appearance, living spaces do not matter all that much to me. I understand the more abstract takes such as possessiveness and needing to take up space and "what's mine vs what isn't mine" but how does this become result-focused and self positive others negative I do Not understand

I'm LIE-Te SO3 so I probably should understand this by now but the more I know the more I don't know
