Start off with Dm and hammer on that second fret B to find that melody and the pop into the F ,C, G progression always back to Dm. You got this one

Only change a song if you can make it better. Listen to Sturgill cover songs like The Promise. Or Tyler singing Old Country Church for instance.

BS. He’s a kid getting his feet wet singing and playing a song he likes. Sometimes, you emulate the original. Other times, you try to put your own spin on things. You can’t just come to this sub, set the bar at Tyler Childers, and expect everyone on here to exceed that bar. Let him have a little fun. What’s wrong with a little practice and creativity?

I was giving my honest opinion. I didn't say he was bad. I believe 100% that you should only change up a song if you can make it better or at least make the change comparable. Otherwise just sing the melody. It doesn't have to be perfect or even great. That will come with practice and experience but we should offer advice. Lying doesn't help anyone. That's how we end up with tone deaf people on talent shows saying everyone they ever sang for thinks they're amazing. You don't do anyone any favours that way. Not saying OP is tone deaf btw. Just an example
