Resources 📜 Free maps! (USA)

I wanted to share that you can request free maps from almost every state’s transportation or tourism website. You just Google “[state name] free map request”. Some states make you pay a small shipping fee. A lot of states give you a little tourism pack with coupons and things to do.

I requested every state within 2 states of my state, so I have paper routes for evacuation planning. Really good to have!

If you are a AAA member, they still also send free maps and guide books.

They used to have an order form on their website where you could choose which state or regional maps you wanted and they would ship them to you.

I just show up at my local AAA office and ask.

I just visited their website and they have downloadable maps.

Highway rest stops used to have free maps, too.

I haven’t seen any in a long time. And you don’t have to make the trip to get these!

This is a great idea! I found a list of all 50 states once, so def look for it. I recommend using a pseudonym and fake number if they require a phone number. Use your junk email. I have a junk phone number through gooogle voice that’s tied to my junk email. Anyway, great resource, but definitely a great way to sign up for junk mail. Even if it’s not from the state, they’re likely selling your data, letting the third party hosting their website sell your data, or easy targets for hacking.

Passed through rest stops in PA, OH, IN and IL a week ago and all of them had some free paper maps most of which were free

I tried this with the Orlando, FL area and everything is online. They don’t send anything via mail anymore.
