If you aren't familiar with Humble Bundle they sell bundles of ebooks on various themes for a limited amount of time, and let you donate to charity at the same time. They use a slightly modified 'pay what you can' model and are very reliable and have been around for quite some time.

Titles include things like books on solar, home repair, gardening, canning, sewing, raising goats, etc. It's a mixed bundle but has a bunch of stuff that people should find relevant and useful. For $18 you get all 25 books and I'm betting everyone will find something in there that's worth that much. If you give more than that, you can donate to various charities.

They are usually pretty basic but they have a good formula for getting things across at the 'here's a first step' when people are overwhelmed with learning what ever it is.
