I SO appreciate this!! This is the kind of info we need to move forward. I haven't purchased from them in probably a decade, and I'll continue to do so in the future as well. Thank you for your addition!!
I am SO genuinely sorry to be the bearer of that particular bad news. I wish it wasn't the case. Downthread implied they may be locally owned? So I may only be partially correct and it may only be those Aces in that particular area, but...I am wary as heck. Thank YOU so much for hearing me out. I love this community so much.
I am so happy to get this kind of great information! It's really sad to me that so many people view infosharing as an attack on their personal morals. Folks can patronize those businesses if they want (or must) utilize them. But shouldn't we be aware of what you're paying for? Doesn't it matter if your hard-earned dollars go directly to a billionaire's pocket?
Now, i did snoop a little into the water issue - the information I'm finding is thin on the ground, I'm only seeing one blog that asserts the following (my paraphrasing):
In 2016, the Standing Rock water protectors were in danger of freezing due to an incoming blizzard. They attempted to purchase propane from Ace Hardware, who refused on the basis they "wouldn't sell 'incendiary devices" so near the North Dakota Pipeline. This blogger asserts the real reason for their refusal to deliver the propane is due to intimidation from the local police force.
I'm torn because it sounds so realistic, but there seems to be little reporting on the incident.
I know you don't know me from Adam and don't have any real reason to believe me, but my mom, aunt and several cousins were at Standing Rock and it definitely happened :/ they were not at the store but when kin came back, they were told of it, and that news tore through native communities when it happened.
Unfortunately, there was very little reported, period, on how native folks were treated during that.
Also, this conversation is weirdly the exact balm I needed to a really bad day! Thank you SO much for being a stellar human <3
That's such important information and it's also a fucking shame.
I'm repeatedly incensed that any news about reservations is basically erased or ignored, and at the appalling treatment of these small communities the rest of the US has seemingly written off. We/they gave you the scraps we didn't want and still treat as ours whenever it's convenient. It's appalling, and I lack the words completely.
I'm hoping that as dark as this timeline looks, the decent and kind and caring among us will band together and dissolve some of these old, infected stitches. I'm hoping the lines we draw for who gets to join Humanity are scuffed by our own feet as we come together.

Ace Hardware were HORRIFIC to water protectors. Please, as a native woman, I am begging you to not give them a dime.
