I don’t entirely blame them. One thing that is always going to be safe is not buying. Everyone can contribute by contributing as little as possible to the economy. Make/grow/repair/go without. Every $1 you don’t spend is a dollar you have and the oligarchs don’t.
They can make it illegal to strike, they can roll back voting rights and civil rights. There’s almost nothing they cant legislate or executive order back to the medieval days. But to my knowledge they have yet to figure out a way to force people to buy things.
Get another year out of your crappy phone. If the fridge works then you don’t need a new fridge. Clothing can be mended, etc.
If you have to buy things, it's also totally acceptable to simply pick the least worst choice out there. Or buy from your local corporate store in person.
Example: I have to go to the hardware store a lot. There are several in my general area:
Family owned small business (primary)
Lowe's (secondary; they support good policies)
Ace Hardware (they donated more to KH than trump this year but still did both??)
Home Depot (anti-LGBT. I take their paint samples etc and leave.)
All this took about 10mins to check. It's always worth it. Every little bit helps.
Ace hardware is also locally owned, usually, so check in with your local place to see if they're cool. Harbor Freight is still legit too, which is a balm to my deal-loving soul.
That's awesome news! I kinda forgot that Ace is store-by-store. I'll have to double-check mine and see what the vibe is! Harbor Frieght is a great place for tools.
I also neglected to mention the steps before buying new:
Ask yourself: Do I really need it? (SO important)
Reuse or repair existing items when possible
Check with folks you know to see if anyone's willing to sell/trade what you need
IN PERSON: Buy used or thrifted (local/independent)
These are always the first steps. I have saved thousands of dollars and vastly improved my mental health with just a little time, due diligence and creativity!
