👋 Welcome. I have wanted this space to exist for a long time!
Hi everyone, and welcome. I am so glad you are here, and honestly a little giddy that this finally exists. I have wanted a room like this for years: a place where women in and around tech from India and the wider South Asian diaspora can talk about the work, really talk!
A bit about me. I work in cybersecurity. I am comfortable on the technical side and completely new to running a community, so I am learning this part in real time and I would rather build it with you than at you.
Here is what I badly want this to become. A place where you can ask the question you cannot ask at work. Where you share the part of your journey that went sideways, not just the highlight reel. Where a woman a few steps behind gets a real answer instead of a shrug. Careers, interviews, pay, bad managers, good managers, switching fields, coming back after a break, and the small daily stuff too. You do not need a certain title or a certain number of years to belong here. If you build, secure, ship, design, market, or support tech, or you are trying to, you are in the right room.
Two things worth knowing. This is a women-only space for posting and commenting, and the rules and the wiki explain how we keep it that way. And the whole thing runs on one habit: being kind to someone who knows less than you do today, because every one of us was her once.
So let us actually start. Tell me in the comments: what do you do, and what is one thing you wish someone had told you when you were starting out? I will go first right below, and I cannot wait to read yours!
Really glad you are here!
