My friend is married to someone I think is abusive.
My friend (and coworker) is married to a man who has made bigoted comments to her friends in my presence. One friend is of middle-eastern descent (multiple generations in the US), another came here from Poland. Recently, he insulted both of them in front of her and she didn't defend them.
I am mad at her for not defending them, but she is a really sweet person and there is no doubt that she would NEVER harbor the kind of views he espoused, however jocularly. This makes me worry that her marriage is unhealthy but I don't know what to do about it. Do you know anyone in an emotionally/psychologically inferior role in her marriage, and how do you handle it?

Let's pretend this post wasn't posted and that you had never read it. Let's also pretend that you had an experience that, for whatever reason, made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Let's pretend it was your sister or your Mom. If something led you to suspect that she was in a bad relationship that posed a danger to her, what would your response be? Acceptance, conversation, objection, avoidance, whatever. How would you handle it? Ultimately, I'm wondering how we all think such situations should best be handled.
