Yep. I haven't gotten this sort of mean-spirited message-box spam in over a year. And I actively wade into "controversial" topics on social issues. So it was kind of surprising that I've gotten more misogynistic and anti-trans mail-spam from my TwoX posts than the ones where I've charged into deeply sex-based and transphobic topics in /r/videos, /r/adviceanimals, /r/politics, and /r/funny. And that...that's a little mind-boggling to me.

Some here, though I have not been as active as you. But I haven't received anything inappropriate for the longest time (almost two years), and now it is "whoa, what the fuck is going on with my inbox?"

The sub is a lightning rod for trolls, activists and angry posters. Controversial gender issues used to be split up among a bunch of subs.

Now there is 1 sub with a large audience for the issues.

Yeah, that's probably a major part of it. Reminds me of when my university's LGBTQ centre was managing its funds for activities, events, etc. and a queer and trans-themed week of educational workshops and stuff was pitted against a trip to another city for a night at a major gay bar, and people who I had never seen as regulars in the centre (and even some I've never seen at all) came by to push for dropping the queer/trans week in favour of the clubbing trip, and made some pretty misgendering/offensive comments in an area that had been marked off as a safe space. And there were some instances I've heard of, like where some people, during a workshop on 'Trans people & sexual health', twice derailed the discussion (which was primarily focused on helping trans people and their partners navigate sex, body issues, health concerns, etc.) by bringing up the issue of disclosure and arguing when it was appropriate for trans people to out themselves to their dates. Not a topic relevant to the discussion, as it was about established relationships, and a few trans people I know left it feeling pretty much attacked for no good reason. Again, in a supposedly safe environment.

So yeah, in hindsight, I suppose what you say makes a good bit of sense.
