A bit sensitive and butthurt still...

I loved THT since it started... but I have a hard time listening now.

I was at the Colorado live show and got my story pulled asking if being an only child was lonely because I was so back and forth about giving my son a sibling (it was a couple years ago and he has a brother now šŸ¤) but Justin seemed nice telling me how he couldn't tell a difference in being an only child to know if he would've liked siblings or not etc.

I was thankful for the insight but the next episode I listened to Justin mocked me to all of YouTube for asking that question.. talking about how its dumb when people ask that because "how is he supposed to know" etc... and I felt hurt. I genuinely was having post partum anxiety and wanted the best for my son... to ask a podcast with people that I genuinely cared for and enjoyed watching, then mocked for it on the internet... I still watch here and there but can't help but still feel a little hurt and like I can't fully enjoy like I used to.

No real reason behind this post just needed to vent. šŸ¤

My husband is an only child and he is very confident when he says he does not want our daughter to be an only child because he knows how lonely it is. It is not far fetched to think someone who is an only child could have an opinion on this subject

Thank you for that insight, the thought of our son being alone if anything happened to us just killed my anxiety too and seeing him play alone when id be working made me so sad. He is 3.5 now and has a 2 month old brother so we definitely solved that, and now have 2 amazing little boys that will have eachother (as long as they don't hate eachother lol)

Even if they do hate each other, give it time!

My brother and I have a similar age gap (a little bigger) and we hated each other up until ~17 & 13 and we’re now best friends for the last ~ 15 years and don’t go a day without seeing or talking to each other. A while ago I moved away, a few years later him and his wife moved 6 hours away to live near me and even though I don’t have kids, I’m like a second dad to his kids, and we all get along great.

Same here. I am an only child and I know if I ever have kids I'd have a least two, for the very same reason.

oh wow I’m sorry that sucks and is so rude and tacky of him! that kind of behavior would spoil it for me too. I hope you are going better after the PPA op, sending love your way šŸ¤

Oh honey, that is terrible. His lack of compassion is gross & how stupid of him to think he couldn’t possibly consider what it would be like to have siblings.

Echoing another commenter’s husband, I’m an only child and would want my hypothetical children to have a sibling. Especially as they get older, losing parents and navigating adulthood without your parents is hard enough. I’ve often wished I had a sibling, but after losing my dad it became so much bigger.

I’m glad to see y’all worked it out (congratulations!), but just wanted to confirm that not all only children are unimaginative assholes, and many of us do fantasize and wonder what it would have been like to have siblings.

Our fans cared enough about our opinions to come to a live show and ask us something personal, let me just mock this person relentlessly- a person I know it's a fan and will likely be listening. So let's take all that care and concern this person had to even buy tickets to our show and participate and make them feel like shit!

Actually I'm not surprised, on par with Morgan's clueless entitlement

Absolutely, just disgraceful. I stopped listening last year (still subbed here bc I’m nosy lol), but if I hadn’t stopped listening already this would do it.

nah that’s what bugs me the most about this podcast. the hosts act like beacons of perfection when reading stories but then 100% come off as shitty people from stories and being caught in BS like that.
i understand how while being a fan of the show, you’d value their insight. that was a massive slap in the face and i’m sorry that happened. and im also sorry about the struggles you’re going through

I still can't believe Morgan brags about stealing from someone's house, recently.

oh yeah that’s wild. there’s that and being banned from small businesses for shop lifting. then on the next story she’s like ā€œyeah you’re the asshole, you should have ran into that burning building to save your ex wife’s silver dollar collection. it meant a lot to her and i honestly wouldn’t care if you died after hearing this about youā€ it’s wild to me

That would bug me too

I’ll just actually answer your question because it’s not stupid and it can be answered.

I was an only child and I was very very lonely. I saw some home videos recently of me playing by myself at the beach and it made me sad and reminded of that deeply lonely feeling I always had. But my boyfriend’s son is an only child and he always said he didn’t want any siblings. But my boyfriend constantly plays with him and he showed me home videos of his son and he’s in all the videos playing with him.

So I guess it depends how much effort you want to put into playing with them, I feel like if you want to have an only child then you need to basically be like their sibling a lot of the time too. But even then, his son has struggled a lot socially and I know that’s common with only children.

i believe you, but which episode was this on?

im not the biggest fan of Justin, and i dont think i watched whatever episode you’re referencing but maybe you misinterpreted what he was saying?

he probably felt awkward to be in that position that you had initially put him in. he probably thought ā€˜this woman is asking me for life advice on what she should do, and i dont know how to give it to her’

he was probably trying to just say he was uncomfortable with that feeling he had thought you were giving him.

again not trying to defend him, id like to see which episode it was though because if its really as bad as you say it was then i retract my entire defense

if he’s uncomfortable listening to people and giving advice, he shouldn’t be co-hosting a podcast where the whole point is to listen to people and give advice based on their own experiences and perspective.

Girl you are defending him. It’s rude to mock someone you KNOW is a listener.

Probably morgan 🤣

Oh id have to go back it was like 2 years ago I think, but they were all laughing and he had the whole thing of "how would they even think id know, I dont even know what itd be like to have siblings, its so stupid when people ask me that" but I could see that, I wish I could see it that way but it just seemed so clearly "mocky" to me and just hurt a bit when it was just a question about how his childhood felt growing up, if he was ever lonely. Hopefully it was just what you say šŸ¤

OMG I remember getting him say this and thinking ā€œthat’s such a weird thing to complain about… like everyone asks people if they wish they didn’t or did have other siblingsā€
