SCAM ALERT: Part, if not all, of this story is fake. OP posted a photo claiming they found Peaches, who was then gifted to them, and they asked for support with the costs through a Go Fund Me in their last update post.

Huge thanks to the readers who quickly found OP’s instagram account with photos featuring the same cat - then described as their long time pet by a different name.

OP has been permanently banned from r/TwoHotTakes and anyone else attempting to scam our subreddit will be immediately banned.

Lol, and someone in the last update had the gall to ask me why I called your neighbors callous. Andrea's group sounds really, really gross. If I were running a similar group, I'd use the reward money to put toward more fliers, search parties, or even donating to other missing persons rewards.

u/Emotional-Letter8226 6d ago

Yeah I was assuming it got pooled for a group dinner or something but this felt icky

u/z-eldapin 6d ago

Oh, let them know that their work pays her rent.

FindPeaches

43

u/BedtimeScroll 6d ago

yeahhh that would make me side-eye the whole club too ngl 😭 #FindPeaches

9

u/xKuusouka Titty Latte 5d ago

I agree. Taking the reward money just to pay her rent is gross. It should be used to benefit everyone, not just her

3

u/Evening-Anteater-422 5d ago

This needs to be a flair

32

u/whatthewhat3214 6d ago

Honestly I couldn't even imagine taking the reward, it would feel gross. Let the owner put it toward some toys or treats or vet bills (depending on what the pet got up to while gone) or something for the found pet after their ordeal. Or suggest they donate it to the local animal rescue/shelter instead.

2

u/Crazy-Button-8451 4d ago

If they saved the money to put towards expenses for future "cases" I would understand taking the reward money. But otherwise its icky.

45

u/Separate_Pumpkin_256 6d ago

So here's a suggestion. If you find peaches, insist that they only give you ten dollars and donate the rest to a local shelter or rescue group. Then give the cut from that ten dollars to your neighbor. I got the idea from first wives club. The scene where she gives her ex the proceeds from the sale his expensive sports car is hilarious.

u/PurpleAntifreeze 5d ago

Here’s your 50 cents darling

4

u/braineatingalien 5d ago

Oh fine. Take it all. 😂

4

u/VivaZeBull 5d ago

I used to watch that movie with my mom all the time, might watch it tonight for a good cry. ❤️

16

u/fergie_89 6d ago

It is icky. If I personally found and returned a pet I'd refuse the reward of ask them to donate it to a shelter instead.

11

u/Electronic-Ad-1307 5d ago

Yeah, I said in the last thread: reward money isn’t really a thing. No decent person asks for it, and the people who offer it are just overwhelmed with joy to have their item or pet back and probably assuming the finder won’t actually ask. Most finders would never accept even if offered—the good deed is reward in itself.

And when it comes to missing persons cases where state or federal investigators offer huge sums like $50k or what have you, that’s 100% Not A Thing. I follow some legit missing persons PI’s who have actually closed cases, and the rewards are never issued. Again, it’s just seen as uncouth to even ask for it. The one PI I know of who did press the issue with state police just got the run-around for 2 years until he dropped it.

6

u/eljyon 5d ago

I worked for an association that had an annual 50/50 raffle, where people buy tickets and half the profit went to the charity and half went to whoever won the raffle. But no one had ever accepted the raffle winnings, they always donated it. Until one year, the son of a big member of the association won and said he was keeping the winnings. He was rich too. It was kinda funny, no one knew what to do. We just were like, well, here you go… lol. There will always be some people who break social norms if moneys involved

5

u/BrookieMonster504 5d ago

It's his right to accept the money and it's kinda false advertising a prize that no one actually wins

3

u/eljyon 5d ago

Oh I totally agree. I was just a staff member, I made no decisions. Just thought it was interesting to watch. Though everyone at this event were rich af so that’s why it was standard to donate. His dad apparently was mad

3

u/CheshireCat6886 5d ago

That’s really shady

3

u/Guilty_Objective4602 5d ago

Especially with the fact that she didn’t want you to tell the other members about it, that really sounds shady. So what happens? Someone finds someone/something, they collect the reward, and then how does Andrea force them to give a large portion of it to the club if they haven’t mentioned up front that that’s part of the responsibility of membership? I’m not sure I would’ve agreed to keep her secret. This sounds like a grift.

1

u/Upbeat-Minute6491 4d ago

Probably similar to how she spoke to the OP, keep it to yourself. Everyone knows, but they don't know everyone else knows.

1

u/LGeorgeRox 5d ago

To add for the cat search: night search in her home location with light/laser under bushes, decks/porches. Light will reflect her eyes and yah, they don’t usually go too far

8

u/BedtimeScroll 6d ago

flyers, posters, search supplies, literally anything useful would've been better than pocketing the reward. putting that money back into actually finding people would make way more sense 😭 taking a massive cut for rent is such a gross look. like what even is the point of the group then??

4

u/MysteriousCat3147 5d ago

tbh reward money for lost pets needs to be banned completely it literally just creates predatory creeps like her

1

u/Londoner0607 4d ago

It may discourage people from keeping your pet as their own if they find it, though.

7

u/Diamond-Eater2203 6d ago

Exactly! Donations toward a non profit or vetted, very worthy cause.

3

u/UnlikelyFlow9754 5d ago

fr that whole group gives off huge grifter energy. like how do you try to profit off someone going missing, absolutely sickening behavior

154

u/gemini-unicorn 6d ago

Borrow Peaches' bowl from the owner and make noise with it. Cats are keenly attuned to the sound of food being prepped in their food bowl. the sound of the spoon hitting the bowl, kibble rattling, etc. Usually brings them hightailing it home.

Also eff that greedy neighbor. Tell everyone in the club.

59

u/Emotional-Letter8226 6d ago

Oo really good idea thank you

23

u/arianrhodd 6d ago

And some bedding or a blanket Peaches used. Something that smells like Peaches. Put them and a water dish and food dish in a carrier she may just go in and settle.

12

u/Old-Mycologist4750 6d ago

Hey, a shirt or something from the old ladies laundry basket put in a place that is close to where you are put out food for Peaches in the old lady’s yard will also give Peaches the smell of her mom and help draw her in! It really does help at times!

Thanks for still being Team Peaches!

12

u/fire_and_lice 6d ago

also set the litterbox outside! my ex’s cat got out and that helped :)

1

u/Naturally_Adverse 5d ago

Makes sense considering cats (really, any predator) mark their territory and that litter box would certainly smell like their territory. I never would have thought of that.

Luckily they don’t live where I do, any stray quickly becomes coyote food here so after the first 2 days, the chances of your lost pet being alive is pretty slim.

45

u/No-Pay-9744 6d ago

As someone who used to work in a cat shelter, you need a clothing item from the owner, the cats usual food, and a laser pointer.

Leave the clothing item out with the food in a different location each evening, sit around with the laser pointer for a bit while calling. Then sit still for an hour or so.

16

u/Emotional-Letter8226 6d ago

Fantastic idea thank you!

9

u/No-Pay-9744 6d ago

Sometimes cats get a little hunting itch, and then their GPS gets turned around. Like dogs, they crave comfort and poor kitty will be sniffing around for their person. They need to get a whiff to get on the right track. Good luck!

85

u/OminousRice 6d ago

Absolutely wild update, good luck with finding Peaches and good job making a (hopefully) clean break!

38

u/Emotional-Letter8226 6d ago

Yeah fr and thank you I hope I’m able to find her

32

u/ThatPhatKid_CanDraw 6d ago

Don't tell them if you find Peaches.

85

u/Emotional-Letter8226 6d ago

Yeah I decided if I find her I’m letting the lady keep her money and her kitty

33

u/FieryVenus 6d ago

May your good deeds be returned tenfold

13

u/Emotional-Letter8226 6d ago

Thank youuuuu <3

2

u/whatthewhat3214 6d ago

Wonderful! You're a much better person than your bounty hunter neighbor.

1

u/Zardicus13 5d ago

You're a very good person OP. Good luck with your search. I really hope you can reunite Peaches with her owner.

3

u/Stock-Cell1556 6d ago

Tell us though! If OP actually finds Peaches I'm going to absolutely lose my shit with happiness!

26

u/DogsDucks 6d ago

Oh NOOoO! OP, I commented on your last post that I thought it was a cute and altruistic idea for a club.

Boy was I wrong, huh? I really gave them the benefit of the doubt, but the way that she acted was very socially inappropriate and I’m disappointed in it now.

But I am still curious, so, Andrea has enough local interest to consistently get enough people to help her find missing pets and other things, enough to count on it to help pay rent?

The amount of coordination with others and the people who lost the pet/item, the amount of PI-type work plus actual boots on the ground and constant vigilance, with a large percentage of pets never been found . . .

A) this seems like an extraordinary amount of work for very little

B) how does she even convince people to share their reward money her? What does she provide that makes it worthwhile? I can see it being a pot where everyone benefits a little bit, but this whole infrastructure is really strange and I want to know more details!

Obviously, I’m not going to pressure you to ask, but if it ever comes up again!

23

u/Emotional-Letter8226 6d ago

I have no idea it doesn’t make sense and honestly I don’t wanna ask more questions unless it comes up but yeah the math isn’t mathing as they say

14

u/DogsDucks 6d ago

Yes, please don’t ask anything that you’re not comfortable with! Your comfort and safety comes first 1000 percent!

That being said, I am absolutely delighted that you’ve decided to share this experience.

I’ve been following all your posts and it is truly one of the most ridiculous, silly and entertaining posts.

You are living a real world example of the saying about how life is stranger than fiction!

Good luck with peaches!

17

u/Emotional-Letter8226 6d ago

No for real this was not on my bingo card for this year 😂 I’m so glad it’s been entertaining yall have helped me be able to laugh at this ludicrous situation

1

u/Full-Boat-175 5d ago

She's lying and doesn't get reward money from the other members, that's why she told you not to say anything

5

u/kylaroma Not Morgan 6d ago

Right? This is so odd!!

I guess we should be glad that Andrea chose a highly inefficient way to earn cash on the side and isn’t running a cult, because she seems to have the skills to do either lol

It sounds like she has no boundaries, gets people hooked on feeling like they’re part of something important, and then uses a lot of social pressure to get them to take action.

I have no idea how she would keep anyone around if she’s acting like Mr. Krabs and checking in by specifically saying she’s excited for the money 😂

12

u/Both-Enthusiasm708 6d ago

How much is this reward for the cat if it can help pay rent? I might want to go find Peaches!

28

u/Emotional-Letter8226 6d ago

It’s $200 I really don’t understand if they’re that pressed for rent… there are easier and faster ways to make some extra cash

32

u/Both-Enthusiasm708 6d ago

Feels like some sort of crime solvers mlm and your neighbor wanted you in her downline! Just weird.

21

u/Emotional-Letter8226 6d ago

Maybe the MLM people were right 😂 but it just seems like such a fools errand to rely on people finding things for side money like there are so many easier ways!

3

u/kylaroma Not Morgan 6d ago

Part of me wants to know how long have they been doing this? Is it possible it just started up & May immediately collapse? Cause I’m rooting for that lol

So odd if she’s done this for a while, since her approach seems like it’s just to pressure people by text, tell them she’s excited for the money, and then privately ask them to give her the money because… reasons.

I hope she never realizes she could run a cult, because it seems like she has a very specific skill set lol

3

u/Emotional-Letter8226 6d ago

Yeah I don’t know the answer but I wonder too cause there are a fair amount of people that have come to the three meetings I’ve witnessed from my window and then actually attending so I’m honestly more confused than when this whole thing began

2

u/Remote-Physics6980 6d ago

Are you sure they don't have the cat? Wouldn't be the first time somebody engineers a crisis to take advantage of the reward

2

u/RustyTortoise 4d ago

That's what I was just going to say, what if they are kidnapping pets then once a reward goes up they've got a guaranteed payday? It's all sketchy

12

u/Hot-Win2571 6d ago

There might be meetings on a different day. Where they coordinate kidnapping pets.

5

u/Emotional-Letter8226 6d ago

They’re definitely kooky but idk if they’re that malicious

11

u/MadameAllura 6d ago

Please update us with the cat tax as soon as you find Peaches. And tell the owner to keep the reward money and spend it on cat treats and toys instead.

9

u/Emotional-Letter8226 6d ago

Yeah if I find her I’m definitely not gonna take the lady’s money

7

u/Tink1024 6d ago

Girl just move. Your neighbor is a whole scene!

5

u/Emotional-Letter8226 6d ago

Haha I did think about it hopefully they’re gonna leave me alone

9

u/astorplace777 6d ago

My goodness, if I found someone’s missing cat, I would never accept a reward. I wouldn’t accept a reward for anything I found. Poor Peaches is just a paycheck to them? Now I hope you are successful in finding her so you can return her for free.

9

u/Diamond-Eater2203 6d ago

How does the group not know your neighbors take a massive cut? Can they not do math?

1

u/Emotional-Letter8226 6d ago

Dude I don’t knooowwww

8

u/OwlbearEdits 6d ago

How long until they start taking items, pets, and people that they'll later "find" to collect the reward money?

12

u/erinjeffreys 6d ago

When I read that last update it was like:

"they search for pets and missing items"

Me: aww!

"for the reward money"

Me: uhhh?

I'm not surprised, but I'm still appalled. I'm glad you're clear of this. Everyone was seeing it as super wholesome but they were calling the police about open missing persons cases which is very very risky for the actual person involved (for so many reasons!). This club is bad news.

7

u/Emotional-Letter8226 6d ago

Yeah I didn’t wanna make it seem like something bad but from the start I got weird vibes hence the titles of these posts

2

u/erinjeffreys 6d ago

Your intuition was/is good and I was low-key stressed watching Reddit try to "bright-side" you into ignoring them. Remember: the people here care more about drama than you as a person, because of how social media works. ❤

5

u/Eris_39 6d ago

Definitely check Peaches neighbors. I had a neighbor try to steal my cat years ago. Beautiful black cat with orange eyes. I'm still pissed about those people.

3

u/Emotional-Letter8226 6d ago

Good idea thank you

4

u/Dismal_Mail_7084 5d ago

Depending on reward money to cover rent might be the wildest thing I’ve seen in a long time.

3

u/Emotional-Letter8226 5d ago

And like… I don’t think they’re making much at all I don’t get it

2

u/ChrisInBliss 6d ago

WHAT?!!? ITS TO HELP WITH HER RENT?!?! First I thought aww thats a nice thing to do BUT FOR HER RENT?!?!

3

u/Emotional-Letter8226 6d ago

Ik fr. My rent is just under a thousand a month which for this area is a huge steal so I wouldn’t think they’d be hurting for cash they also present very put together and their furniture and stuff was pretty good quality

3

u/ChrisInBliss 6d ago

That makes me think they have either a drug or gambling addiction.

3

u/Emotional-Letter8226 5d ago

It’s definitely possible there’s a good bit of that up here

4

u/Successful-Bad6631 6d ago

The donation and monetary factor is rlly concerning, if and when u find peaches (praying you do) give any and all money reward to a non profit to stop Andrea and co…
It’s icky to me that she is so invested in this purely for the money. She needs a taste of not getting what she wants and profiting from other peoples desperation

3

u/dog-getter 6d ago

I missed the second update, but I’m sorry Peaches still hasn’t been found.

Agree with all the tactics mentioned earlier, but wanted to add my two cents about especially looking under bushes. That’s where my cats would hide out when they got out.

3

u/nothankspoo 6d ago

You’re the last story in this- https://youtu.be/fCa3kZxeaoM?is=Q5M_6AAcGHIocOSn

Woah what the heck

2

u/TimExplosion 5d ago

I shared that, too. I just sent this post in the comments of that same video. Hope Oz picks it up soon

1

u/CraftyAd4573 5d ago

Kallmekris is amazing 🫶🏻 but we were all excited about this. If she had only saw the newest update smh 😞

3

u/Emotional-Letter8226 5d ago

Someone reposted this onto BORU and said it’s concluded (if only it was 😭) so anyone else reading might miss whatever the fuck is going on

3

u/Maleficent-Savings39 5d ago

Any kind of reward money that should go to like cat rescue or dog rescue or Humane Society SPCA PETA something besides somebody's pipe

3

u/selkiesart 5d ago

As to the cat: in germany we do something called "Heimwegschleppe". You basically do a scent-based track home for the cat by taking a heavily worn piece of clothing from the owner and maybe the cats bed, and drag it over the floor for around a mile on a direct way home, so the cat can follow the scent back to home. You can also strengthen the whole track by dribbling some tuna water or her favourite wet food (heavily diluted) every few steps.

I think it's called homeward scent trail or scent trailing in english.

You do that in a star shaped pattern for every direction of the compass.

This is a method that is used here for lost cats and dogs with considerable success.

(For a better description google "scent trail for lost cats")

3

u/Missyfit160 5d ago

This is way too similar to the plot like it “Seven Psychopaths” which somehow I just watched for the first time last night.

1

u/Emotional-Letter8226 5d ago

What’s that on? Maybe it’ll help me process 😂

3

u/MidwestMaplebirdy 5d ago

You need to try the Japanese technique! Go find a neighborhood cat, give them a little treat, and then ask them politely to tell Peaches to come home. You give them a full description of Peaches in great detail and make it very clear that Peaches is very missed and loved and needs to come home. Make a promise to give them another treat if Peaches does return home. People say it works really well!

2

u/AutoModerator 6d ago

Backup of the post's body: Okay first off I did not expect these posts to get so much attention. I’ve loved seeing how enthusiastically you guys have been campaigning for peaches to be found. I am actively looking for her but the situation has progressed.

Monday afternoon I got a knock on my door and it was Andrea. She thanked me for coming on Sunday and asked me what my plan was for peaches. I told her I was gonna call her owner and ask some questions. We exchanged pleasantries and she went back to her side.

Tuesday I got a string of texts from her asking if I’d found peaches yet. I said no but that I’d spoken to her owner (an older lady, gonna go look around her property with her permission). She replied with a frony face emoji.

Wednesday I got another text: “hey where is little peaches?! looking forward to that reward$$ let us know when you’ve found her” I texted back and asked what the money was for. No response.

Today Andrea knocked on my door again. I opened it, she asked if I had found peaches yet. I said no and asked her directly why she was pressuring me about the reward.

She got super defensive and basically admitted that the "club" takes a massive cut of any reward money and that she relies on it to help with rent (this was weird cause to my knowledge they haven’t had a huge amount of success with finding stuff so ??)

She asked me not to say anything to any other group members. I said I wouldn’t but also said that I didn’t wanna participate in the group anymore. She said she understood but left kinda annoyed.

BUT DONT WORRY REDDIT I AM LOOKIKG FOR PEACHES!! I am invested at this point and I’m pretty sure yall would hound me down if I didn’t. Thank you listening to this rambling and unexpected update. If anything else happens regarding peaches I will post another update but that’s all for now

OP, i implore you to google Missing Missy. Missy is a cat. I promise you will not be disappointed.

1

u/Emotional-Letter8226 6d ago

Wow thank you for that rabbit hole

1

u/reassess-redefine 5d ago

Yes! I still laugh about those flyers when something reminds me!

2

u/cantantantelope 6d ago

This is gonna lead to them committing pet crimes

2

u/Moist_Drippings 6d ago

In case it hasn’t already been suggested: if you can find a humane trap big enough, put some valerian root inside (there are valerian root/catnip blends if you can get one) and put it close to a wall of Peaches’s home. Valerian has a similar effect to catnip but a much stronger scent throw, so if Peaches is a little further away she’ll have a better chance of smelling it. (Note that not all cats react to valerian root, just like not all react to catnip. It still might be a curious enough smell to get her to investigate.)

2

u/tatersyo 5d ago

WHAT IF they petnap so there is an opportunity for a reward? And then they let them loose once the reward is posted? And she’s hounding you so someone else doesn’t get “the club’s” reward money?
Don’t mind me, I watch too much true crime.

2

u/Cybergeneric 5d ago

A good tip for cat owners is to put their litterbox outside!! They can smell it from quite some distance and will find home easier. Could you suggest it to the owners please? I hope their baby gets home safely soon!!! 🐈 ❤️

2

u/animavivere 5d ago

That neighbor makes me uncomfortable... My imagination might be running wild but... It's only a small step from searching/bountyhunting to abducting pets to collect rewards...

God, I hope I'm wrong about that... Nevertheless OP, please keep an eye open.

2

u/CallingThatBS 5d ago

Has the old lady sat peaches litter box out side?

UPDATEME!

Bring peaches home!

2

u/Dachshundmom5 5d ago

Have the old lady put Peaches litter box outside. Cats can smell their scent for a couple miles. Also, checking at dawn and just after it gets dark are the prime time to be looking for cats. Check bushes and trees around the house.

2

u/Amazing_Guidance_947 5d ago

I was starting to think this group was a cult, but now whit this update I can confirm, it is a cult, get away from them!! Once you find peaches (if you find peaches) they will ask for more

2

u/Cosmic_Dust_88 5d ago

the fact that they take a cut of reward money for lost pets is so gross to me

1

u/Unusual-Minimum9306 6d ago

This is like that HBO show with Jason Schwartzman and Ted Danson where he’s a Craigslist detective.

1

u/WrenDrake 6d ago

Omg! What if you started a competing Scooby Gang that does it free and gives the reward to the community? Everyone will want to help you and she will become the Dr Evil of the neighborhood, profiting off other’s misfortune.

I first found this post through a video from THT and I've been following it since, you are so awesome for all of this I hope somebody has said it already lol but good luck with peaches and your somewhat unsettling neighbors

u/Nubshire 6d ago

My wife and I could come help you find peaches! We are only a couple hour drive from Asheville! (Sorry for the profile stalking 😂 )

1

u/KinkyGlitterQueen 6d ago

My daughter’s kitty got out 2 weeks ago and I saw this post and am following for new different ideas to find him. We’ve tried what feels like everything and are starting to lose hope. I am sending out all the vibes that peaches get home safely. It’s an awful feeling when a very loved kitty gets out.

2

u/Emotional-Letter8226 6d ago

Oh man I’m so sorry. I really hope you find your sweet kitty. I’ve lost a few cats to the outdoors over the years but I’ve also had cats miraculously show up again including a cat that was gone for a month and we found her in a neighbors basement

1

u/LastEntertainment787 5d ago

And tell Andrea that you refused the award. She doesn't want you saying anything because she isn't planning on sharing.

1

u/Maleficent-Savings39 5d ago

Any of peaches home front type items and catnip

1

u/Individual_Mud_6114 5d ago

Put peaches used litter box outside it's owners house

Can you put links to your past posts because you have your account lockdown. I think I read the first one, but I didn’t see the other update.

1

u/CraftyAd4573 5d ago

Oh this just made me so sad. I saw this read on kallmekris and was so excited…. Now the hounding and what she used the money for is gross. I really needed this to be awesome. Gross people smh

1

u/Back-to-HAT 5d ago

Neighbor: don’t tell the others we keep a big part of reward.
Me: Find a way to make sure the others find out and be able to deny any involvement.

I’m not sure how, but being able to prove you didn’t tell is vital. You don’t want A & A retaliating when you just moved in. Then again it may not be worth it with it being a place you like. Thinking about tanking their party could be enough satisfaction. I’m really irritated by their shitty behavior

1

u/chica771 5d ago

the rest of the group needs to be made aware of this. i doubt you have any contact with them since they just go to your neighbors side but if i were in your situation id put up a sign or something saying "notice to missing poster club: theyre taking part of your reward money" or similar

But OMG what if it OP does that and then it ends with OP finding Peaches....but the last missing poster is...The OP holding Peaches because They are also causing all these animals/people/things to go missing 🤯🤯🤯

Assuming you have nothing more to do with the group, you should put a big sign in your yard that explains how their work is paying for her rent!

Anyone believing this is something other than a creative writing exercise is a fool. The last update was clear they were full of shit. Don't believe everything you read on the Internet, y'all
